Secondary Multilingual Learners

Bethel High School

The Multilingual Learner program at BHS includes English Language Development (ELD) classes, Academic Support, EL Capstone, and EL Intervention classes including EL HOMI and EL Intervention. Details regarding each course can be found below.

English Language Development

The BHS ELD courses are taught by a licensed ESL teacher and consist of two levels, each with a dedicated, content-rich curriculum building reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to all proficiency levels.

EL Academic Support

EL Academic Support is available during student Learning Labs and Capstone Support periods Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, where current and former English Learners receive dedicated language support for their content classes from an EL tutor.

Language Intervention Classes

English Language Intervention classes are offered to students for whom a normal Literacy Intervention class is inappropriate. This applies to newcomer students, students who have completed both ELD courses and are still working to fine-tune their language skills in one or more specific domains, and those students who are still developing native language literacy.

Progress Monitoring
