1) HAVE AN INDEPENDENT READING BOOK TO READ AT SCHOOL AT ALL TIMES!
Our first homework assignment is to find independent reading books that you want to read during this school year. You must always have a book to read with you in class, and you should have at least one at the ready should you finish the book you are currently reading. I will be expecting you to have an independent reading book by Friday, September 9th.
2) Nightly independent reading is key to reading growth. Students will read nightly for the sake of reading, for the love of stories, and for a wealth of new words! Fifth graders should read for 30 minutes of reading a day.
