The MLP Student Spotlight recognizes outstanding student effort, achievement and/or behavior. MLP teachers nominated students who made an impression on them during Term 5 and 6. They thought about students who participated in Zoom classes, worked hard and helped others.
Bushra Saghir - Ms. Stewart from Term 6 US History: "Bushra is an amazing student! She values and appreciates all things school. No challenge is too big, always giving 100% Her positive attitude is contagious. She is kind and will offer a helping hand to help others without hesitation. Bushra definitely deserves to be in the spotlight⭐️" Ms. Geshell from Term 5 Chemistry: "Bushra continues to be a bright light in my chemistry zoom classes. She is an active participant every day, asks good clarifying questions during assignments, and always puts 100% into her work."
Rokaya Abdullah - "Rokaya is an engaged, responsive, and enthusiastic student and classmate, despite the many challenges she faces in Distance Learning. She consistently demonstrates a strong dedication to the language-learning process by using her available resources, working with our wonderful tutors and regularly attending Wednesday sessions. Jose Manuel (Lucas) Argueta - "Lucas has demonstrated that the time, effort, and energy that goes into contract work can lead to success. By attending class daily, completing assignments, and communicating with his classmates, teacher, tutor and counselor, Lucas has made great progress. He has increased his confidence and leadership skills as well, and is always a wonderful example of how actively participate in class by asking wonderful questions and creatively engaging with the class content. Jean Kyla Bayonas - "Kyla joined our Multilingual Program during term 6 and hit the ground running in this challenging chemistry course. She was such a positive presence in class, it was like she had been with us all along. Even with no chemistry classes before now, she has worked hard to get caught up and ask questions to help her learn as much as she can going forward." - Ms. Geshell, Term 6 Chemistry
Soizig Senant-Giraud - "Soizig has been an active and lively member of my chemistry class this entire school year. She asks insightful questions every class period and always joins in to the conversation to help out other students when they have questions in class." - Ms. Geshell, Term 6 Chemistry
Ajmal Khan - Ms. Geshell, Term 5 Chemistry: "Aji was a big help with my class while I was out on maternity leave and we had a couple of different substitutes. Each time I got a report from the subs, they always mentioned Aji and how much he had helped be a leader during zoom sessions. I appreciate that he was able to take on that role." Ms. Warriner (World History): " He is inclusive and friendly with all of their classmates, respectful to others, supportive of others, courteous and appreciative of their teachers and classmates. He actively participate and engage in live Zoom classes. He consistently submits high quality asynchronous assignments. He is role models for their peers in the classroom because they motivate and inspire other students."
Esteban Juarez Rugama - "Esteban continues to be an active and positive participant in my chemistry classes. Everyday he participates in class discussion answering and asking questions. He always has a smile on his face and helps liven up the class!" - Ms. Geshell, Term 5 Chemistry

Ibrahim Shah - "Ibrahim always comes to our Zoom classes ready to learn. He participates actively, keeps his camera on, completes his assignments on time, and is respectful towards everyone. Alejandro Andre Rodriguez Loyola - Ms. Maaze (ELD 3): "Alejo’s positive attitude and big smile always brighten up our Zoom room! His engagement in our class discussions and his eagerness to learn are inspiring. We appreciate the joy and dedication he brings to our ELD 3 community. Mr. Hondros (Integrated Science): "I didn't teach Term 5 so I can't speak much to what has happened, but I do know that Alejo has been super active in class and always willing to help out others within the class. He has been enthusiastic every single day."
Temuujin (Temka) Sarangerel - "Temka asks great questions and he is very helpful to other students in the class. For example, he is one of my upper level students who help with posting notes in the chat. Grecia Barajas Melendez - "Grecia has overcome many challenges outside school in order to complete her graduation requirements and finish senior year strong. She contributes to our class, whether it's volunteering to read, encouraging her classmates or sharing her ideas. Grecia has worked really hard during both terms, and I want to recognize her amazing effort and appreciate her dedication to her education! You're a star, Grecia!" - Ms. Maine (ELD 5)
Marlene (Mae) Ortigoza-Martinez - "Over the course of this school year, Mae has worked very hard to overcome the challenges of Distance Learning. She participates regularly, even though the internet signal sometimes isn't strong enough to allow her to stay in Zoom classes. She completes assignments, even though she is working long hours at her job. She has so much enthusiasm for English, whether it's reading and interpreting literature or practicing grammar. I am very impressed with Mae's dedication to learning!" - Ms. Maine (ELD 5)

Frances Kuong - "Frances has made a lot of progress in distance learning this year and is now one of the students who participates the most in our ELD 3 class! Her attendance, engagement and focus have improved tremendously and, as a result, her skills are getting better each day. Her hard work, dedication and maturity are remarkable. Irene Sriraksa - Ms. Albrecht: Irene is always engaged in class and has very good math ideas to share. Her final project was interesting and showed strong understanding. Mr. Hondros: Irene always comes with a smile on her face. Everything that she turns in is high quality work. Every time I grade an assignment and leave comments, she'll respond with a "Thank you!"
Sephora Brevil - "Sephora is very engaged in our Zoom classes, and she participates frequently, even while her younger relatives are running around in the background! She is often the first person to complete an assignment, and she often takes extra time to review her work and make sure it's high quality. Great job Sephora!" - Ms. Maine

Edwin Sol Aranda - "Edwin has been a strong positive presence in our class, always laughing and cracking jokes. He used his personal time to write a column for the Jacket (Berkeley High's student newspaper), and he also volunteers during tutorial class.
