After completing the list of things to do after submitting applications (refer to Admissions Page)
You most likely have to wait a while for decisions - here's what to do and not do in the meantime!
What You Should Do!
Affirm Yourself!
You put in the effort, completed your applications, and now it’s out of your hands. Trust that you presented yourself in the best possible way, and the right opportunity will come to you.
Talk About Your Feelings
Share your thoughts with friends, family, or mentors who understand what you're going through. Talking about your worries can help relieve stress and provide reassurance.
Accomplishments Reminder
Whether you get accepted or not, your worth is not based on a college decision. There are many paths to success, and you will find opportunities no matter what happens.
Practice Patience
Great things take time, and waiting is a skill that will serve you throughout life. Trust the process—whether you get into your top choice or not, you will have opportunities to grow, learn, and succeed. Your future is still unfolding, and exciting possibilities await.
Lock In
Overthinking won’t change the outcome, so try to focus on what you can control today. Engage in things that make you happy—whether that’s spending time with loved ones and remember - you still need to pass your classes in your last semester to admit!
Present Mindedness
When anxiety takes over, ground yourself in the present moment. Take deep breaths, journal your thoughts, or remind yourself of everything you have already accomplished. Gratitude shifts your focus from stress to appreciation.
Have Some Fun!
Instead of stressing, celebrate how far you’ve come! Treat yourself to something special—a favorite meal, a fun day out, or a self-care day. You deserve to enjoy this time rather than spend it worrying.
Waiting for college decisions doesn’t have to be stressful. Use this time to create fun memories and enjoy life!
Take Things Day to Day
Rejections, waitlists, or unexpected outcomes are not the end of your journey—they are just redirections. Many successful people didn’t follow a "perfect" path, yet they still achieved greatness. Trust that you will end up exactly where you’re meant to be.
What You Should Not Do!
Obsess Over What If's
It’s easy to spiral into thoughts like “What if I don’t get in?” or “What if I should have written a better essay?”Overanalyzing the past won’t change the present, so focus on what you can control now—like preparing for your next steps.
Be Negative
Avoid conversations or social media discussions like deep diving in Reddit forums that can make you feel worse. If constant college talk stresses you out, take a break from it and focus on things that make you happy.
Comparing Yourself
It’s easy to feel discouraged when you see others getting acceptances, but everyone’s path is different. Avoid discussions that make you anxious, and remember that college decisions do not define your worth.
Don't Give Up
A college decision is not a reflection of your intelligence, abilities, or future success. Whether you get accepted, waitlisted, or denied, remember that you are capable, and there are many paths to achieving your goals.
Overthinking / Predicting
Trying to analyze when decisions will come out or guessing your chances based on past admissions data can drive you crazy. UCs have different factors in their selection process, so don’t let speculation take over your thoughts.
Unproductiveness
Anxiety can make you want to ignore schoolwork, personal projects, or daily tasks, but falling behind will only add more stress. Stay productive so that no matter what happens, you’re setting yourself up for success.
Lack Motivation
Instead of sitting in your thoughts, do things that keep your mind engaged—pick up a hobby, spend time with friends, or start planning for other possibilities. Keeping busy helps prevent unnecessary overthinking.
Crashing Out
Avoid making rushed choices—like committing to a different school before hearing back from all your UCs or convincing yourself to give up on your goals too soon. Be patient and wait until you have all your options.
By following the What To Do and What Not To Do , time will pass by quickly!
