Hello and welcome!
DES INV 22: Prototyping & Fabrication and DES-INV 23 Creative Programming and Electronics are Jacobs Institute courses offered jointly this Summer 2023 through the Maker Launchpad program.

DES INV 22 teaches concepts, skills and methods required to design, prototype, and fabricate physical objects. Each week relevant techniques in 2D and 3D modeling and fabrication are presented, along with basic electronics. Topics include a range of prototyping and fabrication techniques including laser-cutting, 3D modeling and 3D printing, soldering, and basic circuits.

DES INV 23 teaches computational skills such as coding and circuitry through creative practices and art making. We will explore the creative and expressive nature of computational approaches to art and design. We will be using Arduino, a creative hardware and software, as a tool for augmenting the physical world with digital information, as well as exploring the P5.js open-source creative coding library and gaining an understanding of the current landscape for creative coders and makers.

Over the course of 6-weeks, these courses will give students the opportunity to learn how to write code, build electronics, and create a series of art machine projects, including robotic instruments, kinetic sculptures, and interactive installations.

On this website you will find materials and resources for each assignment. This is also the venue via which we will collect submissions and present public documentation of student work.
