Dutch Slough is a restored tidal wetland, established by the Department of Water Resources. The property is near Oakley, CA on the former Burrough Dairy and Gilbert Cattle Ranch; it is located across the street where D. Baldocchi was reared on a walnut ranch.
CA DWR invested much time and energy in levelling the land and planting tules. The levee to the wetland was breached in 2021.
In addition to carbon and water fluxes, we are monitoring the tidal action and the lateral flows of carbon entering and leaving the wetland. We have also collected high resolution LIDAR and digital imagery on drones to capture information on the fraction of water and to separate green and dead vegetation.
