HIgh school me

by Evelyn Padilla

I am from a place where diversity shows at its finest

From being unique and then brought into a mixture with the people I share the most memorable moments

Where I can not wait to find out what I am learning up until lunch and then forget

Where I spend the weekdays at until the deafening bell at exactly 3 o’clock rings

I am from early Saturday mornings being thrown up mid air by three strong girls

To uplifting both the school spirited crowd and the diligent athletes on the field

From interlacing three strands of hair either silky straight or crunchy curly

Where I met new gals and reunited with an old one

I am from bouncing an orange ball up and down and no look passes trying to help score

To helping teammates out during an intricate play

Where I learned a lot about being fair to others even the opposing team

Where I met acquaintances and learned to treat them like family

I am from the sweet everlasting love my progenitors radiate ever since middle school

From the humid and ink smelling school where both my parents and I grew up

Where later on an eccentric small version of me will later grow up in too

Soon she’ll ask “Did you know this teacher?”

I am from the worn out princess blanket on my bed since I was 7

Needing to share it three years later with a blanket hogger

Where I learned sharing is caring

From a cozy and small place I love called home
