Fifth Grade

Reading Level 5th Grade- Book Level T, U, V

Reading on a daily basis is still important at this level. Most students at this level enjoy reading chapter books. Have your child find a chapter book series that interests them and then have them read a chapter (or more) each day. Read the chapter book with your child so that you can discuss it with them.

A great writing activity is to have your child write a short paragraph about each chapter after they have read the chapter. This is a great way for you to see if you child is comprehending what they are reading and also great writing practice for you child.

Another good writing activity for your child is to write letters or notes to special family members or friends. This can be done on paper or by writing an email on the computer.

Another great and fun reading activity for your child is to have your child cook or bake with you. Let your child read the ingredients and measure them out (this is also great math practice). Have you child read the recipe step by step directions as you are cooking or baking. This is not only fun but you will both enjoy a special treat when you finish!

Have your child go the Epic Book website and select a book to read. He/ she will enjoy reading more if they can select a book they are interested in reading.

Another nice website for your child is RAZ-KIDS. On this site the book are leveled. Your child can read or listen to the books on this site.

Have some family fun by playing games with your child. Allow them to read the directions on how to play the game. A great game for expanding their vocabulary and spelling is Scrabble.
