Your safety whilst at school is of the utmost importance. There are many safety features and procedures in place around the campus and in the House. It is vital that you familiarise yourself with the layout of your House and its surroundings, so that you are aware of the dangers, safety features and procedures via the information provided to you in House meetings, tutorials, assemblies, chapels and other formal situations. Paying particular attention to the roads, the lakes and ponds, high buildings, exterior staircases, wooded areas and strangers, follow safety instructions and the School rules carefully. Please report any dangers or concerns to a member of staff immediately. Never leave the House without informing staff where you are going. Never leave the School without specific permission.
Every precaution must be taken to guard against fire. The House has a fire safety policy which you will be told about and as part of this, fire drills are carried out from time to time in your House to ensure that you are aware of the evacuation procedure. There must be no naked flames (e.g. matches, candles, joss sticks). All electrical items must comply with UK PAT standards. The only electrical items permitted to be used in bedrooms are laptops, mobile phones, hairdryers and chargers.
The School maintains a safe environment in which children can learn, develop, be encouraged to talk and are listened to. Children are equipped with the skills needed to keep themselves safe. All staff are trained to guide and support pupils who express a need for help. When you arrive in the House the different ways for you to get help will be explained in detail. These are also displayed on noticeboards in the House around the School.
A happy and productive boarding life is based on good relationships with everyone around you (your roommate, Housemates, Housestaff, Matrons and cleaning staff for example). The ability to behave with consideration for others at all times is an absolutely vital ingredient of a harmonious existence in any community. This requires inclusivity, tolerance and simple respect for others. The School rules (which your Housemaster / mistress and tutor will go through with you) are designed with this in mind. Inconsiderate behaviour, which includes bullying, is never acceptable. The School rewards good behaviour and applies sanctions for poor behaviour, where necessary.
