We ended the term with a wonderful Christmas day out in Eastbourne. Cambo sang well in the Carol service, went ice skating and ran off energy at Ninja Warrior, in between all that we filled our bellies at Buffet Time.
On Sunday 10th December Camberlot hosted its Christmas dinner. Holroyd Howe put on a wonderful spread, tummies were full and all enjoyed some fun games.
A big thank you to Mr Davies, Julian De Simone, Noah De Nassau and Alvar Berbgal in creating our entry for the House Christmas Cake Competition, I think they did really well! Competition was tough and we came sixth.
Cooper White is a Camberlot Lower Sixth and joined us this year from Bermuda. He competes regularly in horse jumping and achieved first place at a competiion on Saturday 10th December.
Our wonderful prefect team organised the house and put on a number of events to raise over £1000 for Derby Kids. They raised money by selling sweats, drinks and hot dogs at break and after school, cycling to Lapland (virtually) and on one day all Camberlot pupils wore a Santa or Elf outfit for the day. We also had a Justgiving page and thank you to all who donated money through this website, it's still open if you missed the chance to donate: https://www.justgiving.com/page/cambocharityweek
During November we've been organising year group trips to break the week up and celebrate finishing assessment week. L5 and L6 will happen next term.
In the first week after half term we had a lunch with the Headmaster. This is us practising our table manners and conversation starters. They did the House proud!
On Friday 24th November 2023 Mr Collier organised a Moustache party to raise money for Mens health and cancer. It was a wonderful evening with live music and games.
Mr Davies rolled out our indoor bowls mat on Friday 11th November 2023
Our new Residential Tutor
I am very excited to join Camberlot House. I joined Bede's in 2022 as a teacher of History and Classics. Originally from Northumberland and now very settled in my new life in the South East. I am a massive Star Wars fan and am a huge dog person. I am so excited to be starting in Camberlot and joining an excellent boarding house at Bede’s. I look forward to encouraging the Cambo boys to maximise every opportunity coming their way and seeing them grow into ambitious, respectful and authentic individuals.
What a week it has been. Thursday's House Competitions were incredible with so many 1st and 2nd place finishes. Then Friday was the icing on the cake with a win in House Music. The House is a buzz and we are hopeful to improve on our current tied 3rd place.
Most enjoyed the House Cross Country Competition on Friday 22nd September. Camberlot came joint 5th and have climpbed the House Competition ladder to the lofty heights of 3rd place.

I am a teacher of Psychology here at the senior school and I joined Bede's in 2021. I moved from a local FE college where I worked as a Head of Sport and A levels, as well as managing a few other departments. I absolutely love my subject and I particularly enjoy seeing how the concepts apply to everyday life, but contrary to what many of the pupils think, I cannot read what people are thinking! My wife and I will be moving to the school with two children, Phoebe and George, who are 13 and 6 years old respectively. My family and I are excited to be joining Camberlot in September and really look forward to getting to know everyone involved with the house. George has already been telling his friends at school that he will have 80 brothers, which his classmates have struggled to comprehend as you can imagine! From a personal perspective, I am excited to be joining Camberlot because I have heard wonderful things about how strong the community is within the house. I can't wait to get stuck into helping the boys enjoy their boarding experience and reach their potential.
Below is a video summarising the events of the summer term. This has been created by our very own Residential Tutor Mr Furlong

Together we join to celebrate, together we clap and cheer, together we watch improvements and face the things we fear.
Together we grow and develop, together we all belong, together we make mistakes and learn about right and wrong.
Together we praise the gentle, the kind, the strong, the brave, together we share achievement in a thousand different ways.
Together we'll finish the journey, wherever it started from, together we are tomorrow, together we are one.
Matt Goodfellow - A poem read in Chapel for our theme for the evening - Togetherness
We came 5th! Lots of fun creating this video. Thank you to Edward Tinkler for editing.
After a busy week of exams our Sixth Formers had a well deserved meal at The Plough (03/03/2023)
Joseph Connolly runs the House tuck shop which is well stocked and very popular with our pupils. It's open every break time and Joseph is currently training some younger assistants to help him.
Cambo needed a win, or wins, during the 18 activity House Competition on Thursday, thank fully we got it. Will this take us out of 10th place in the House Competition?
It has been a wonderful term in Camberlot and I wish to thank all pupils and staff who have made my first term as Housemaster so memorable.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas holiday.
Mr Brown
On Tuesday 13th December we went on our Christmas trip. We began at St Bartholomews church in Brighton, buffet in Eastbourne, Christmas shopping (no excuses for the boys not to bought you a gift) and finished with Ninja Warrior. Lots and lots of fun, photos below:
From Monday 5th December to Friday 10th December Cambo raised money for The Beachy Head Chaplaincy, a charity that patrols the coast, responding to emergency calls locating anyone at risk. They support, listen and to encourage more hopeful solutions than suicide. Cambo raised money through making Christmas stocking fillers, selling tuck and hot dogs and the infamous Santa v Elves day.
All Cambo Boys decorated the house on Thursday 1st December. Particular mention to our interior designers: Orlando Ross and Max Mason.
We encourage all Cambo boys to play games with others during the week and on weekends.
November 10th: We began our midweek year group trips by taking our U6 to Lottridge Driving Range
On Wednesday 2nd November we had our first house event of the term, a wonderful low key party with Dorter. Music, fancy dress, snacks and drinks were enjoyed by all. Here's some of the fancy dress from the evening.
I am delighted to be the new Resident House Tutor in Camberlot. Since leaving Eastbourne College, 3.5 years ago I have been committed to assisting pupils achieve their full potential. I started my teaching career at Dulwich Prep, Cranbrook, as a teaching assistant taking an active role within the Sports and Boarding department, I joined Bede’s at the beginning of the year to look after the Boys 1XI Hockey. I have been extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to continue to develop my approach to coaching and pastoral management. Away from the House, you will find me down in the Sports complex carrying out my logistics coordinator role. I’ve always had a passion for children's development within education, as well as on the sports fields. I have fond memories, and learnt integral life skills as a boarder myself, which is why I was so keen to be a part of the boarding community at Bede’s. I am currently enrolled on an Education Studies degree with the Open University. I am incredibly honoured to be Camberlot's resident tutor and am extremely excited to get started and be a part of such a special community.
Fun was had by all in the House Music on Friday 7th October, not the results Kambsberry (a combination of Kinghts, Camberlot and Bloomsbury) wanted but fun nonetheless. Well done to our student leaders and a particular mention to Will Quibell for his organisation and solo performance.
We said farewell to Ms Poyser this week and wish her and her family all the best with their new life in Norwich. We will miss you!

Dorter invited us over for a themed Oktoberfest party on Thursday 13th. German food and music was enjoyed by all.
This passing year, the walls of Camberlot house have been witness to yet another series of wonderful, memory-filled and hilarious experiences that I hope will be embedded in the hearts and minds of most of the boys.
The year officially begun when a myriad of new and nervous faces walked into Camberlot in August, but it only truly started once they were met by the more seasoned members of the House and they started to form the friendships that will hopefully be with them forever. As usual, the short first week was quickly succeeded by the first weekend in; it is during these 3 days that we truly bond and get to know each other. Therefore, the Camberlot house team organised a series of events that diffused a sense of nostalgia among those of us who had gone through the same experience in earlier years: barbecues in the back garden, team building activities on the sports fields, followed by a whole school ‘colour run’ and outdoor cinema. The atmosphere of the autumn term is difficult to explain as it often seems like an emotional rollercoaster, both for new and old boys. It begins with a passion, energy and curiosity that is difficult to rival at any other point in one’s life, as everyone looks towards new things, new friends, and new horizons.
Very soon, it felt as though the new joiners had always been with us and although we faced some restrictions due to COVID, the Camberlot boys made the most of the first term and being back in the boarding House. The first set of House Competitions saw challenges accepted and the event was great to help form new friendships. Following this we had the hugely successful ‘Mr Sealey Quiz Night’ which included lots of carefully crafted and creative questions about the boys to help them get to know more about their Cambo peers.
The prefects then organised a programme of whole house events, with two stand out evenings being the Black History Month celebration and the House Charity evening. During the Charity evening, the House Council spoke about our charity ambitions for the year and as a house, we decided to support the small and local charity, ‘Children with Cancer Fund’. This is a charity that works closely with young people and families impacted by cancer and it strives to support and create experiences during an vincredibly challenging period. In order to raise awareness and funds, the Camberlot boys decided to have a ‘Santa vs Elves’ week, which saw a number of challenges including hot dog eating, dressing as Santa for the day and a Santa vs Elves Basketball match.
The autumn term drew to a close with our House outing which this year saw us travel to Crawley to play airsoft - a great opportunity for the boys to squeeze out the last bits of energy before the end of term whilst also getting the satisfaction of targeting some of the staff! Following this, we made sure that any calories lost were quickly replaced as we headed to an all you can buffet. The boys certainly made the most of it and with the number of plates consumed - I think that the restaurant underestimated the Camberlot appetite! The final event of the term was the House Christmas meal. A chance to reminisce about the past term and also enjoy the highlight of the evening……Cambo boys covering their face in shaving foam and trying to see how many cheese wotsits their friends can get to stick!
The Spring term is always a favourite in Cambo and this time it was even more special as normality started to resume and the boys were also able to make the most of the longer days and better weather! For many, highlights have included the things that haven’t been able to happen for the past two years, whether that be House visiting, weekend trips or games of ‘one bounce’ in the House garden. However particular highlights were the pancake evening – which say Sarah, whip up pancakes, waffles and toppings for over 80 boys. In addition the recent cross country is one of my personal favourites of the year, not because of the competitive aspect, but because every boy does there bit, walk, run or sprint and the sense of community and enjoyment this year was greater than I’ve ever seen before.
The main event of the term was our Evensong and Formal Dinner – such a great celebration of the year with a wonderful speech from a former Housemaster, Mr Rimmington and a truly impressive speech from Freddie, our Head of House. The evening finished with the entire House singing a truly unique rendition of ‘Sweet Caroline’ – rumour is that it could be heard at the other side of the School site. A fitting way for our U6th to sign off! The evidence is still available on our House Facebook page.
The summer term sees the focus turn to the external exams and an important period for many of the Camberlot boys. It is important that all of the boys have downtime too and we always ensure that there is still plenty to happening, whether that be sport competitions, House water fights or a BBQ.
It has been another fantastic year in Camberlot and the boys should be commended on their efforts, resilience and spirit. We now look forward to building on this success and enjoyment as we enter the next year in Camberlot.
