The role of the Mentor
Provide "just in time" support for mentees throughout the school year. This may include a variety of Instructive, Facilitative and Collaborative strategies.
Facilitate mentees' growth and development through modeling guided reflection on practice and providing feedback on classroom instruction.
Deliver tailored support, instructional mentoring support and guidance for mentees utilizing an array of Mentor Program tools.
Mentor responsibilities
Training and Professional LearningÂ
Attend Mentor Program professional learning opportunities
Participate in on-going Forum and mentor led connections
Participate in optional professional learning opportunities through Teaching and Learning Department
Supporting Mentees
Support the needs of mentees weekly. This may include (but is not limited to):
Reflecting on experiences and implementing best practices
Collaborating on building systems and routines
Navigating curricular resources
Designing and implementing learning engagements
Developing and evaluating assessments
Building plans for family communication
Modeling for and/or co-teaching with the mentee
Observing and providing feedback on teaching as directed by mentee
Providing guidance and instruction regarding required paperwork and documentation (such as IEPs, Progress Reports, TAG Forms, etc.)
Attending meetings (such as IEPs) or professional development
Problem-solving around challenges
Designing and facilitating professional learning opportunities for mentees, including time to observe experienced teachers
Use provided Mentoring Tools and language to guide and enhance conversations.
Communication
Record hours and types of support provided to mentees through the use of a data tracking tool
Encourage feedback and open lines of communication regarding support and the need for additional supports
