BSD is committed to the success of our newest educators, and has worked to build a framework of support based on communication and collaboration. To that end, Mentees, Mentors, Building Administration, and District Leaders have roles and responsibilities to fulfill throughout the year.
Each stakeholder (defined below) has specified roles and responsibilities, which can be viewed on subsequent pages.
Mentees are typically in their first or second year of teaching (0.75 FTE and above). If capacity allows, the following teaching groups may be eligible for support:
Teachers that have experience in other countries and are new to BSD
Teachers that have experience in other countries and are new to the US education system
Long term substitute teachers
Mentors are Teachers on Special Assignment (TOSA) within the Human Resources department. Mentors have specific training to support educators early in their career in developing systems and routines, understanding and implementing curriculum, and ensuring student success.
Building Administrators include Principals and Assistant Principals in the building in which each Mentee teaches. Building Administrators may also provide additional on-site support from Student Success Coaches, Student Managers, Counselors, School Psychologists, Speech/Language Pathologists, or other licensed staff with specialized knowledge.
District level support will include professional learning and materials that are necessary to implement curriculum in the classroom.
