The mission of the Beaverton Mentoring Program is to provide
high quality, equity driven instruction for students by supporting the
professional growth and personal well-being of teachers new to the district.
Overview:
The Beaverton School District (BSD) Mentor Program is a comprehensive initiative designed to support educators during their inaugural year(s) of teaching. The program is structured to provide mentees with experienced Mentors. By fostering a collaborative and enriching mentorship experience, the program aims to contribute to the growth and development of highly effective educators within the Beaverton School District.
Key Features:
Mentor Support:
Mentees who elect to participate in the BSD Mentor Program will be paired with a dedicated Mentor. These are experienced educators with specialized training to offer tailored support that is teacher driven, with a clear focus on student engagement and teacher growth. Examples of these opportunities may include lesson planning, student work analysis, classroom management support, and observations.
Connection and Collaboration Points:
Mentors will engage in weekly meetings with Mentees to establish a strong foundation of trust and learning. These meetings will occur during contract hours and serve as opportunities for open communication, sharing successes, addressing challenges, and collaboratively developing strategies for growth.
Targeted Professional Development:
The BSD Mentor Program emphasizes targeted professional development designed to meet the unique needs of early career educators. Mentors will provide opportunities to reflect on, and enhance teaching skills, instructional techniques, and classroom management strategies. Additionally, Mentors work to connect Mentees with other learning opportunities offered within the Beaverton School District.
Field Visit Observations:
Mentors and Mentees will participate in guided field visit opportunities. Mentees will be provided with substitute release time to observe and connect with experienced teachers in their field. This experience will culminate with reflective protocols and goal setting.
