PRIVATE LESSONS
Private lessons are encourage for all students! Whether seeking a challenge or in need of some extra help, private lessons can assist each and every student in becoming a better musician. Additionally, studying privately is a great way to discover many of the opportunities available to musicians outside of a typical band class. Many of our lesson teachers can offer insight to a variety of experience including working with and playing for the US Air Force, managing or creating their own groups, composing award winning pieces, and even working on music for video game companies! If you are interested in lessons for your child, scroll to the bottom of the page to view the list of private lesson teachers. You can reach out to them directly about setting up lessons for your child.
The following individuals are recommended private lesson teachers for each instrument and most of them come to the school each week so you don't have to take your student anywhere extra.
TUTORS
At the high school, students in the top band classes can receive Honors credit for tutoring a middle school student. We have two forms of tutoring available:
Flex Tutoring - We offer FREE Flex Tutoring every day of the week except Wednesdays. Tutoring is open to any band student and they are welcome to utilize it as often as they want/need. To come to tutoring, students need to ask Ms. Conrad for a pass to the band room during Flex. It is recommended that students come get a pass before 1st period as spots are limited each day.
After-school Tutoring - Middle school students can be paired with a high school student to receive free tutoring after school once a week. As part of this mentorship, they will meet at least 30 minutes once a week with their middle school student to tutor them. This is a great time for middle school students to get help on skills they are learning in class and music we are learning as well as to explore other music that interests them. Participation in the tutoring program is free although it is limited based on high school mentor availability (i.e. we can only pair a middle school student with a high school is wants to earn that Honors credit). If you are interested in a mentor for your student, please email Ms. Conrad at laura.conrad@gocreek.org.
PRIVATE LESSONS VS. TUTORS
Both private lessons and the tutoring program are a great way to get your student some individual attention on their instrument. The main difference is that private lessons cost a fee (usually $12-18/lesson) but are with a musical professional. Our lesson teachers have a degree on the instrument they are teaching and have years of experience teaching lessons. The tutoring program is free and it is led by high school students. These students are some of the best musicians on their instrument at the high school and can offer a lot of help to a middle schooler but obviously there is still a difference between a HS mentor and a professional musician.
