Following on from last weeks work looking at the Olympics and angles now there is a chance to look at some of the fascinating things that you can learn about shapes just by looking at the flags of different countries. You will be seeing what different shapes you can find, what translation and what reflection there are in them.

Decoupage is the Victorian craft of carefully cutting out paper images, gluing them (often onto a small box) and then varnishing.
Have a go at making your own Victorian decoupage by cutting out pictures from old magazines then gluing onto a cardboard box.
If you look online, you can find further instructions and ideas, such as decorating flower pots, making photo frames,etc.
Just use ordinary glue thinly spread and of course if you want to varnish your finished work - ask an adult first!

A massive thank you to all those that rose to the challenge and took part in Beatrix Potter's first virtual sports day.
Judging by the pictures and videos that were sent in, there was lots of fun had, some even wearing their PE kit to make it that little more real.
Now onto the results. It was incredible close fought competition but of course there can be only one winner. The winning team colour for KS2 Beatrix Potter Virtual Sports Day 2020 was...
Hot on their tails in second place were the purple team, closely followed by the yellows in third, in fourth were the greens and last by no means least were the reds.
You'll also see that below we have provided the individual results for each exercise and again some of the results were very close.
A big well done to all those who took part and congratulations to those who came first, second or third in the activities. Please feel free download and print the certificate that applies to you.

Music has a big impact on how you view/feel about a scene in a film. Listen to the 5 versions of music for the opening scene in The Lion King as well as the original music. For each version write down words and phrases to describe the instruments you hear, then the feelings the music might suggest eg: happiness, loneliness, peace... Finally write a few sentences explaining which piece of music you think is the most suitable for the film and why?

Listen to Peter and the Wolf by Prokofiev. The video will show you not only what different instruments look like and sound like, but also how they can be used to tell a story. Prokofiev wrote this symphony (an extended piece of classical music) in 1936 and it is one of the most widely performed pieces of classical music today.

Before the lockdown, your parents and carers might have treated themselves to a meal out. As all restaurants are closed at this time, your adults will probably be missing the opportunity to eat out and be cooked for. Your challenge is to create a fine dining experience for their dinner. I would like for you to recreate the classic meal 'baked beans on toast' in a manner that would be served in a really fancy restaurant.

Research Victorian children. How they had to work rather than go to school. There are many pictures you can find about the jobs they did and how they were treated. What were their lives like? Did anyone go to school? Prepare a small history report about them.
Choose an animal and create a fact file including life cycle, habitat, food source etc. Include pictures, facts and diagrams.
