Message from Year 2 Teachers.....
Hi Year 2.
We want you know we are loving looking at all your work and seeing you on Zooms on Fridays! Oh my goodness how hot it has been! We hope you are drinking lots of water and healthy drinks to stay hydrated. Matthew in Mrs Jones' class is doing a drinking water challenge so he makes sure he is drinking enough and I am sure Emmeline is doing it too! (This is Mrs Jones!)
Enjoy your time out of doors but if you have a paddling pool make sure your parents know you are going in and keep an eye on your little brothers and sisters! We want you all to stay safe no matter how hot it gets!
From Miss WW and Mrs Jones in hot and sweaty classrooms!
Video message from Ms Wallace-Wright...
Video message from Mrs Jones...
Look at the coins you worked with last week and counted. Set up a shop and price some items.
Think about different ways you can make the same amount.
For example, my water bottle costs 20p- I could buy it with 2 10p coins or 4 5p coins.
How else could you make 20p?
Use your addition and multiplication to help you.
Complete the worksheet after you've had a play.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OTbCVer4YIjCeXiOw9USX5QNPlBDV0dN/view?usp=sharing
If I go to the shops with a 50p piece and want to buy an apple for 30p, can I buy it?
Do I need to give the shopkeeper 50p for something that costs 30p? No, I will get money back.
I will get the difference between 30p and 50p- the amount of pence between those two numbers.
Write those two numbers on a piece of paper with a large gap in the middle- count the leaps in between to get from 30 to 50- this is the difference.
Watch the bbc bitesize video and complete the worksheet.
There are also further activities on Discovery Espresso you can use to practise finding change.

You can write the next story in your sequence or if you want to you can write a follow up to a story you know well.
Did the three bears go to Goldilock's house?
Did the snail and the whale have any more adventures?
What happens to Pig and Duck next?
Make your adventure as exciting as you can because we really want to read them!
Well now you will know who your teacher is next year!
We will be talking to them about you but we think you should tell them more.
Write them a letter telling them what you like, what you are good at, your favourite lessons at school.
Also tell them anything you are worried about.
They will read your letters and it will help them to know a bit more about you and be ready for our new school year in September.
Don't be worried about telling them you find something tricky.
They know you are clever but just need more talk or practice with something.
Even grown ups find things tricky you know.
Mrs Jones can't ride a bike properly, Miss Wallace-Wright has a cupboard full of stuff to sort!
Write your letter and bring it in if you are coming for the visit session. If not then look after it till September.
In the book you are reading or a favourite book choose 10 words you would like to learn to spell.
Practice them and put them into interesting sentences.
Have a spelling test when you are ready and send us the results.
We would love to see which words you have chosen.
Can you Google and look at some pictures of religious artefacts.
Make sure you have an adult with you when you do this.
You can draw a picture of it and write what it is for.
Maybe you could something that interests you or is from a religion you don't know much about!
Can you make something huge or something tiny?
It can be literally anything you can think of, a spoon, a chair, a castle, a frog....
We would love to see a picture of it or be shown it in our zoom meeting!
Here is a cool video about making pictures from letters.
Can you make a picture from the letters in your name?
You could use all capital letters if that is better.
Can you show us in our zoom meeting.
Different people like different styles of music.
Miss W-W likes jazz, Mrs J likes musicals.
Can you ask the members of your family what music they like and what is their favourite song?
You might find more musical styles you like by doing this.
It's our last Zoom meeting so lets have a party together.
Have drinks and snacks ready and we will have music.
We may even play musical statues!
Learn the words to A million Dreams song and we can sing together on Zoom!

We are going to learn it too.

A massive thank you to all those that rose to the challenge and took part in Beatrix Potter's first virtual sports day.
Judging by the pictures and videos that were sent in, there was lots of fun had, some even wearing their PE kit to make it that little more real.
Now onto the results. It was incredible close fought competition but of course there can be only one winner. The winning team colour for KS1 Beatrix Potter Virtual Sports Day 2020 was...
Hot on their tails in second place were the purple team, closely followed by the greens in third, in fourth were the yellow and last by no means least were the reds.
You'll also see that below we have provided the individual results for each exercise and again some of the results were very close.
A big well done to all those who took part and congratulations to those who came first, second or third in the activities. Please feel free download and print the certificate that applies to you.
Once again, thank you to all those who took part, demonstrating the importance of keeping fit and healthy whilst having fun at the same time. Mr Finch

Thankfulness- When things change and it seems like we can't do some of the things we want to do it can be easy to only see the sad things but everyday positive things happen, you will smile, you will share a joke, you will learn something. Talk with your parents/carers about the things they are thankful for. Use an old jam jar or any kind of container and each day write one or two things on a piece of paper you are thankful for and put them in the jar.
In Geography we have been learning about our local area, we have added landmarks to a map and discussed our walk to school. If you can, go on a walk with your parent/carer. This can also be done by looking out the window or talking with your parent. Draw a map of your street with landmarks- these could be your friend's houses, a postbox, a type of tree- anything which makes your street recognisable to you.
See if you can learn how to tie laces or bows.
