JUNIOR YEAR REFLECTIONS
JUNIOR YEAR REFLECTIONS
ENGLISH !
For Junior year my english class was college composition one and two. In composition 1 there were multiple little essays that all had different topics. Some of these topics were extremely personal and had a lot of self reflection within the words. I enjoyed this a lot because it made me think about situations that I had been put into in a different way. Composition 2 was focused around a social issue, this social issue was what every essay was built around and up to. My social issue was the mental health effects that adopted children face, I looked closer into how society deals with this issue and the true depth of the problem.
In both composition 1 and 2 the essays and the ways that I learned to write related to the ISSN domain “Recognize Perspectives”. For the essay I selected as my artifact the topic was a short story that ended with a lesson. This took a lot of thinking for myself because I do a lot but I never usually create a reflection on how it went and how I was changed from it. This story needed to be a short time frame with the max being 24 hours. This made it even more of a struggle for myself because then I had to think of key things that have sparked change in me. While writing this I had just started track conditioning again, which sparked the story I decided to write about. This story was extremely personal to me and each word within the story evokes emotion in me that none of my words have ever done before. Im thankful for this class and this specific essay outline for pushing my limits and forcing me to find different perspectives even if concerning myself.
HISTORY !
Recognize Perspectives: Explains the perspectives of other people, groups, or individuals as distinct from one’s own perspective.
As a Junior in JAGS, I have been taking the Model UN class for 6 months now and have learned all of the rules that go along with it. To help promote and keep freshmen in the JAGS program, my fellow jaggers in my grade and I created a Model UN simulation directed towards the freshman. This was a two day event and each day it was for 3 hours. On the first day it was focused on helping the freshman learn what model un is and the rules behind it. I was a part of the lesson planning, the lesson I had to plan was over voting on directives. I was partnered up with my classmate and friend Riley McMurtry. We created a slide that had step by step directions on how to vote on a directive. After we went over the slide we had a directive made to vote on. The freshman went into their first moderated caucus and I provided candy to help them begin to interact with each other. After the lessons were done on the second day there was a crisis league. For this I was just there to help out the freshman and to guide them through the league. I helped them vote, do motions, talk with other countries, write directives, and partner with allies to create change in the crisis league.
Helping the freshman with this model UN simulation connected to the ISSN domain of “Recognize Perspectives” because I got to see from a different perspective the joy of learning and achievements. The freshman went from not knowing anything about Model UN, to 6 hours later being able to run everything. It was amazing to experience this process and how excited they all were once directives were passed. Being able to help them was so thrilling and I'm proud to be a part of an academy that gives opportunities like these.
mATH !
Recognize Perspectives : Explains various perspectives or interpretations of a situation, event, issue, or phenomenon, and reflects an understanding of different contexts, such as access to knowledge, technology, or resources.
In Junior I participated in on-level algebra 2 as my math credit. Ever since elementary school math has never quite been my thing. I have always found so much joy in English classes whether that be writing, reading, or studying psychology/ sociology. So having to still be taking math classes as a junior when all my other classes are heavily english weighted can be hard.
As I am not bad at math and it comes easier to me, I have never been one to want to devote time towards it, which has sparked the main struggle.
My junior year math experience relates to the ISSN domain “Recognize Perspectives” because I have had to learn how to find different ways to look at this class. Something that I do enjoy is taking notes because it gives me the chance to do something I enjoy while in my 47 minute assigned math period. For my artifact I added a picture of one of my notes from this class.
SPANISH !
Communicating Ideas- Selects and applies appropriate resources, such as technology and media, to communicate and collaborate with a range of diverse individuals.
Junior year I took my first college level Spanish class. I have never been the most gifted in Spanish and felt going the AP route was not the best fit for myself, so instead I took a lower level college Spanish class for a semester. This semester course had a lot of busy work and tiny assignments but overall it was a very accomplishable spanish course. While this was my first time ever taking a college Spanish level class, it was also my first time taking a language class online. This created the course to be more of a struggle because I was not speaking the language everyday with the classmates and in front of my professor.
CCP elementary spanish 1 through stark state connects to the ISSN domain “Communicating Ideas”. This class is related to this domain because with every assignment and all the different small or large struggles I had during this semester, I had to be able to communicate very clearly to get the help needed. Because of this being an online course, it was very easy to get isolated and get very behind on assignments. Thankfully I was prepared on how to build a healthy relationship and consistent relationship with my professor which helped me expand on my spanish comprehension and communicative skills.
