EXTRA/ CO - CURRICULAR THROUGH THE YEARS
9th grade Student Leader !!!
Take Action: Identifies opportunities for personal or collaborative action to address a situation, event, issue or phenomenon in a way that is likely to improve conditions.
August of 2020 I started a commitment that was to be fulfilled for the next four years, devoted to the same group of girls for these next years. Rivertree Jackson Christian Church is my home church but it is also a local church in the Canton, Ohio area. One of the main things that this church is known for is their large and very active middle school youth group. One of the reasons that this middle school youth group is lively is because the church promotes highschoolers to be the leaders to these students, and to stay with these students.
Student leading connects with the ISSN domain “Take Action” because I am constantly leading and guiding 30 different middle school girls through middle school and their own religious relationship. I grew extremely close with all of these girls and connect with them on a daily basis as if they are a sister or a best friend. A countless amount of hours of volunteering have put forth leading these girls. Camps have been attended as a camp counselor where sleep is extremely minimal and you live that week serving them so that they can have the best time and grow the most in that week. I have been blessed with the opportunity to baptize three of the girls that I have gotten to see grow. This chance that I was given freshman year is amazing and I will forever be grateful for getting the chance to take action with leading others.
10th grade Camp shaggy !!!
Demonstrates an understanding of a specific audience by communicating and collaborating using verbal and non-verbal behavior, languages, and strategies that are appropriate to the specific audience.
Sophomore Year I attended Camp Shaggy. Camp Shaggy is a camp that all Jackson High School cross country runners attend in the first week of august. This camp is an hour south of Canton and is surrounded by plenty of lands and hills. Many think the goal of this camp is to train hard, get in extra runs and hard workouts before competition season begins. But this camp provides much more than just physical growth and training, it provides team bonding that everyday practice can not provide.
Camp Shaggy extra- curricular relates to the ISSN domain “ Communicating Ideas” because in one week an individual has to learn how to communicate clearly and productively with teammates. Without honest and successful communication, living in such tight corners with little sleep and high activity will turn into a nightmare. Being able to learn when others need space apart, or what tones and words to use around each other in different situations is what makes not only the camp great but the upcoming season great.
11th grade cross country !!!
Communicate Ideas : Demonstrates an understanding of a specific audience by communicating and collaborating using verbal and non-verbal behavior, languages, and strategies that are appropriate to the specific audience.
Since the 6th I have been competing for Jackson in Cross Country. Since freshman year I have been on varsity putting in 6 days of work and countless hours all year round. This junior year I took on an extra role, I became a key leader. I played not only a vital role on the scoring side of the team but also on making sure the team was giving the effort needed, having fun, and accomplishing what needs done.
This Junior year extra-co relates to the ISSN domain of “Communicating Ideas” because throughout the season communication is needed between teammates, coaches, and myself. Without using communication skills a cross country team would never be able to accomplish anything. Many people view it as an individual sport but the scoring requires 5 people. The confidence and encouragement given by teammates during a race is something that oneself can give themselves.
12th grade 4u !!!
Communicate Ideas: Selects and applies appropriate resources, such as technology and media, to communicate and collaborate with a range of diverse individuals.
I have attended 4u, a student lead bible study, since I was a freshman. The club was first started when I was in the 7th grade so when I first joined once I entered high school the club was already pretty set in stone at Jackson High School. Every other Tuesday at 7am during the school year a group of students gather in either n106 or n109 to review a piece of scripture together and go over a set of questions. Another tradition to this group is that we always have donuts that everyone is welcome to. This has always been one of my favorite if not my most favorite clubs that I participated in while a student at Jackson High School.
Towards the end of my junior year I was asked to possibly take the position of president and lead 4u during my senior year. This was a very hesitant yes for me since it was so out of my comfort zone but I did eventually say yes and I am so glad that I did. Throughout this past year leading 4u I have demonstrated the ISSN domain of “Communicate Ideas” by constantly communicating with my two advisors, Mr. Burgess and Mr. Rozler, as well as learning what the other students in the group are comfortable with. Through communication I have been able to correctly guide the other students in 4u during our bible discussions that allow everyone to feel safe enough to talk during.
