The Beacon Boys tennis team finished its 2019 season 10-0 in the Bronx/Manhattan Division.

The Beacon Boys Tennis Team won their 12th consecutive City Championship outplaying long standing rival Bronx Science, 3-2, at Lehman College on May 28, 2019.

Senior Marcus Lee put Beacon on the boards with a quick win over Paul Elghouayel, 6-1,6-4. Freshman Solomon Brown and senior Tyler Kats teamed up at second doubles to beat Bronx Science’s Michael Mullner and Ryan Friedman, 6-3,6-2 for a second win of the match. Sebastian Sec then clinched the title for Beacon with a tough win over Rod Rofougaran, 6-4,6-3.

Bronx Science won the first doubles spot in three sets. Alexander Aney and Christian Bobko teamed up to beat Beacon’s Donovan Brown and Noah Edelman 1-6,6-3,6-4. Bronx Science's Blake Frank then took the final set when Joseph Wilkanowski retired after Blake tied up the match at 1 set a piece, 2-6,6-4.

Beacon knocked out Stuyvesant 4-1 in quarterfinal action then beat MSIT 5-0 in the semi finals.

MAYORS CUP

Playing the best high school competition in New York City, the Beacon boys won the Mayors Cup on June 2 with a 3-1 semifinals wins against Horace Mann and 4-0 finals win against Riverdale.

In the semifinals against Horace Mann, the boys won behind brilliant doubles play by Marcos Lee and Donovan Brown who won 6-0, 6-1 and set a tone for the match. Noah Edelman (6-2, 6-1) and Sebastian Sec (6-1, 6-2) followed with strong singles wins. The match was called with Beacon having clinched, so Joseph Wilkanowski’s first singles match was ended with Joseph winning the first set 6-3, but down 4-5 in the second.

In the finals against Riverdale, Marcos Lee and Donovan Brown again built team energy with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Their win was followed by singles wins from Joseph Wilkanowski (6-0, 6-0), Sebastian Sec (6-3, 6-3) and Noah Edelman (6-1, 6-4). Tyler Kats and Solomon Brown’s match was halted at 4-6, 6-2, 1-3, with the match already clinched.

The Beacon boys have won eight of the last nine Mayors Cups. Thank you to all the parents who have supported the boys.
