The boys were undefeated in their regular season (10-0) with strong contributions from all team members.
The boys won the PSAL championship with a 4-1 victory over Bronx Science on May 24. The boys won the championship 4-1 behind early doubles wins by the team of Julian Szuper and Donovan Brown, 6-3, 6-0, and the team of Felix Levine and Noah Edelman, 6-2, 6-4. Marcos Lee followed with a powerful singles win, 6-2, 6-2. Ethan Leon finished the match, at #1 singles, with a 7-6, 6-2 victory.
This was the 11th consecutive PSAL championship for the Beacon boys.
The Boys also won the prestigious Mayors Cup. The Mayors Cup brings together the best public, private and parochial high school teams in New York City. The tournament is played at the Carey Leeds Center in Crotona Park in the Bronx.
In the quarterfinal round last Thursday Beacon defeated Trinity, 5-0. Ethan Leon, Donovan Brown and Joseph Wilkanowski won in singles, and Julian Szuper, Noah Edelman, Felix Levine and Tyler Kats won in doubles. On Sunday, June 3, Beacon played Riverdale in the semifinal at 9 am. Beacon won behind single wins by Ethan Leon 6-2, 6-0 and Joseph Wilkanowski 6-2, 6-0, and a doubles win by Felix Levine and Noah Edelman 6-0, 6-4.
In the finals, Beacon faced Horace Mann and won 5-0. Donovan Brown finished first with a singles win 6-1, 6-0. Ethan Leon followed with a 6-2, 6-2 dominant win. Julian Szuper and Noah Edelman clinched the win with a 7-6, 6-1 victory at doubles. Felix Levine and Joseph Wilkanowski followed with a three set win, 7-5, 4-6, 10-6. Marcos Lee took the final win at 7-6, 2-0, as his opponent withdrew.
Beacon has won the Mayor’s Cup in seven of the last eight years.
Beacon captured the San Marcos Boys High School Tennis Invitational Tournament title April 28-29 at Fordham University beating Horace Greeley 4-2 in the finals. Beacon was led by Donovan Brown who defeated Spence Lowitz 2-6,7-5,10-4, Jonathan Seidman took second singles from Julian Szuper beating him in a close match 7-5, 7-6. Felix Levine brought in a second singles win defeating Ryan Guber in a quick match 6-1,6-2. In doubles action Kenta Togo and Zach Wallis were able to top Beacon’s Tyler Katz and Conner Dunne 6-4,6-4. Beacon took the other two doubles with Liam Dunne and Matt Mosejczuk beating Justin Greenfield and Brad Schoenfeld 7-6, 6-1,10-8 while Arnov Agostinho and Hyat Oyer defeated Harrison Lerner and Zack Gordon in another close 6-2,6-7,10-5 match. Beacon’s Donovan Brown won the Most Valuable Player award.
Donovan Brown and Julian Szuper won the NYC PSAL Doubles Tournament when they beat a tough rival, Mitchell Pertsovsky and Jeffrey Yu from Brooklyn Tech, 1-6 ,6-2, 7-6 (tie break 8-6). They represented the PSAL in the States Tournament. They beat a doubles team from Trinity to reach the States finals. The NYSPHSAA Doubles team winner, from Mamaroneck, Conner Aylett and Charlie Levinson, beat Donovan and Julian 7-6, (9-7), 6-2 in the finals.
