Christians in Britain Today

INTENT:

I understand why and how different Christians use music in worship.

IMPLEMENTATION:

The children created posters in groups to inform people about how Christians use music in worship.

IMPACT:

The children now understand how and why Christians use music within their worship.

INTENT:

I understand how Christians make a difference in their local community.

IMPLEMENTATION:

Children learnt about what local churches offer their communities and created a poster to advertise for volunteers for a local group that would help others.

IMPACT:

Children now understand why people want to help others and the different ways that Christians offer support to their community.

INTENT:

I understand why people stand up against injustice because of their religion.

IMPLEMENTATION:

Children learnt all about Rosa Parks and the bus boycott. They then discussed how this was not fair and how they understood why Rosa Parks stood up for what she believes in.

IMPACT:

Children can now understand why people stand up against injustice because of their religion.

Different Beliefs About God

INTENT:

I understand what Muslims believe about Allah.

IMPLEMENTATION:

The children learnt all about the 99 beautiful names of Allah and what they tell us about God in Muslim life. The year 3's also looked at why Muslims believe Allah is revealed in nature.

IMPACT:

The Year 3's now understand that Allah has 99 different names as it makes them easier to understand and relate to. They also know that Muslims believe that Allah's kindness and be seen in nature.

INTENT:

I understand what Muslims believe about the Holy Qu'ran.

IMPLEMENTATION:

Children learned about the importance of the Qu'ran to Muslims and compared this with the Bible in Christianity. Children also learned about Arabic patterns in the Muslim faith and what these represented. Children then decorated their own paper plate decorated in words meaningful to them and in Arabic style patterns.

IMPACT:

Children understand the importance of the Qu'ran.

Family Life and Festivals in Judaism

INTENT: To understand two key Jewish religious celebrations.

IMPLEMENTATION: We watched two different children and their families celebrate Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. We read the story of Jonah from the Bible.

IMPACT: Children are now able to explain how Jewish people celebrate these festivals in their families.

INTENT: Children to be able to know why commandments and blessings are important to Jewish people.

IMPLEMENTATION: Children learnt about the 10 commandments and looked at the opening words of a Jewish blessing.

IMPACT: Children now know the 10 commandments and can relate their own lives to these.

INTENT: To visit a Synagogue to bring our RE learning to life

IMPLEMENTATION: On the 12th February, Year 3 visited the Bristol and West Progressive Jewish Congregation to learn more about Judaism.

IMPACT: Children were able to experience RE learning from a first hand point of view.

Why are festivals so important to religious communities?

INTENT: To understand what Christians celebrate at Easter.

IMPLEMENTATION: Children watched the Easter story and a few other videos which showed how Christians celebrate Easter and what certain symbolisms mean

IMPACT: Children are now clear on what Christians celebrate at Easter and the reason behind this celebration.

INTENT: To understand why and how Muslims celebrate at the end of Ramadan.

IMPLEMENTATION: Children mind- mapped what they already knew about Islam. We then watched a video about 'Sara', who told us more about Islam. We then added to our mind map. We then spoke about Ramadan and the significance it has for Muslims. Mrs Chowdury spoke to us about what Ramadan means to Muslims. We then finished by watching a video which showed Muslims celebrating Eid. The children then designed and made their own Ramadan Good Deeds bingo.

IMPACT: The children now know why Muslims take part in Ramadan and the significance of the Eid celebration at the end.

INTENT: To explain why Jewish people celebrate Pesach every year.

IMPLEMENTATION: Children min-mapped about what they already knew about the Jewish festival of Pesach. This was fresh in their minds because we studied Judaism in Term 3. Children then watched a video showing a Jewish family preparing for Pesach. Children then completed a crossword using the clues and knowledge they had learned from the PowerPoint and video.

IMPACT: Children now know the most important festival in the Jewish calendar and what it symbolises and remembers.

Importance of prayer

INTENT: To know what prayer is and the significance of prayer to Muslims.

IMPLEMENTATION: Children watched a video of a Muslim child undertaking the act of prayer and the rituals that take place within this.

IMPACT: Children now know how Muslims pray and the significance of these rituals.

INTENT: To explain how prayers and meditations help us reflect,

IMPLEMENTATION: Children watched prayer from Islam, Hinduism and Christianity. We then thought about how

IMPACT: Children know that they can pray or use quiet times to reflect on elements of their lives.

INTENT: Children to learn what special writing is, can give examples and how they are used.

IMPLEMENTATION: Children discussed different special texts from different religions. Children then discussed what they would put inside their own special book.

IMPACT: Children now know what special writing is, can give examples and how they are used.

INTENT: Children to learn about how the Bible is divided up and the importance of it to Christians.

IMPLEMENTATION: Children learnt about reasons why the Bible has sold as many copies as it has and how the book is divided into so many different sections. They also learnt why Christians may have a Bible.

IMPACT: Children understood the significance of a Bible to Christians.

INTENT: Children learnt about 'The Big story' and the story of temptation from 'Adam and Eve'.

IMPLEMENTATION: Children discussed about what good and bad actions are and how sometimes people are tempted into performing something good and bad. This idea of temptation was discussed further when looking at the story of 'Adam and Eve'. Children acted out the story of Adam and Eve.

IMPACT: Children now know about 'The Big story' and the story of temptation from 'Adam and Eve'.

INTENT: To know the importance of forgiveness.

IMPLEMENTATION: Children watched the story of the lost sheep and the tax collector from the bible. We discussed what the story was trying to say-that to be able to forgive is important in Christianity. We then discussed forgiveness in the Hindu community and compared the two.

IMPACT: Children understand the concept of forgiveness and the importance it has in the Christian and Hindu religions.
