7th Grade Year-Long Required Classes
7th GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS*
In this course, students will learn to communicate effectively through the development of their reading, writing, speaking, and listening abilities. The curriculum will expose them to a range of fiction and nonfiction genres, enabling them to improve reading comprehension and articulate their ideas clearly and thoughtfully. Students will also engage in various writing tasks for different audiences, practice the stages of the writing process, and produce written work that adheres to Common Core State Standards.
7th GRADE MATH
In 7th grade math, students delve into four key areas: understanding and using proportional relationships; mastering operations with rational numbers, expressions, and linear equations; solving problems with scale drawings and basic geometry (including area, surface area, and volume of 2D and 3D shapes); and making inferences about populations from samples.
7th ACCELERATED MATH
This course cultivates student ability to articulate mathematical reasoning, formulate and test conjectures, and document their progress to refine their understanding. The course focuses on irrational numbers, exponents, linear systems, functions, the Pythagorean Theorem, transformational geometry (including similarity and congruence), and statistics.
7th GRADE SCIENCE
7th grade science expands upon skills learned in 6th grade. The curriculum strategically integrates core concepts from life science, earth science, physical science, and engineering, allowing students to progressively build their understanding and recognize interdisciplinary connections. By engaging in authentic scientific and engineering practices such as developing and using models, analyzing data, and constructing evidence-based arguments, students explore these core ideas and develop their ability to make sense of the world. Seventh grade units include: Chemical Reactions and Matter, Metabolic Reactions, and Ecosystems.
7th GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES* One Semester High School Credit (Washington State History)
Students in 7th grade spend one semester of the full year course fulfilling a Washington State History requirement. They explore the geography and economics of Washington while "road-tripping" all around our beautiful state. Within this study is an examination of sovereignty and perspective using the Since Time Immoral curriculum. In the second semester, students explore topics of immigration and advocacy using lenses of diversity, bias, reform, and responsibility.
