6th Grade Year-Long Required Classes
6th GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS*
In this course, students will learn to communicate effectively through the development of their reading, writing, speaking, and listening abilities. The curriculum will expose them to a range of fiction and nonfiction genres, enabling them to improve reading comprehension and articulate their ideas clearly and thoughtfully. Students will also engage in various writing tasks for different audiences, practice the stages of the writing process, and produce written work that adheres to Common Core State Standards.
6th GRADE MATH
This 6th-grade math course facilitates the transition from elementary mathematics by building upon concepts such as fractions, decimals, percents, integers, statistics, measurement, and geometry. Students will develop crucial skills in communicating their mathematical reasoning, forming and investigating conjectures, and reporting on their progress to deepen their understanding.
6th GRADE SCIENCE
In this course, core ideas across life science, earth science, physical science, and engineering are carefully sequenced to enable students to build their knowledge gradually and recognize the relationships between different concepts and scientific disciplines. To grasp these fundamental ideas and cultivate skills for understanding the world, students will participate in activities mirroring the work of actual scientists and engineers. This involves developing and applying models, analyzing data, and forming arguments supported by evidence. Students will also learn effective strategies for thinking about and linking concepts across the different areas of science and engineering.
6th GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES*
This course provides an overview of the many cultural groups that have influenced and contributed to the modern world. The curriculum encompasses Culture, Geography, River Civilizations, East Asia, Greece, and Rome. Students will learn to interpret maps and charts, apply the five themes of geography, define culture, analyze the influence of geography on the development of civilizations, and identify the significant contributions of various cultures and civilizations throughout history.
