in German literally "murder-stroke/strike/blow", is a half-sword technique of holding the sword inverted, with both hands gripping the blade, and hitting the opponent with the pommel or crossguard. This technique allows the swordsman to essentially use the sword as a mace or hammer.
Cuts or blows with a sword blade are ineffective against some better crafted plate armour. when cutting through the steel plates is infeasible, and a sword blade itself was too light to achieve a sufficient effect through its impact force alone.
Weapon Type: Two-Handed Swords (Greatsword, Longsword used two-handed)
Weapon Trait: Improvised Weapon Attack (Counts as an unarmed or improvised strike using the hilt and pommel)
Mordschlag is a brutal, armor-crushing technique where the wielder flips their sword, gripping the blade and using the crossguard and pommel like a hammer. This technique is especially useful against armored foes, as it momentarily compromises their defenses.
When wielding a Greatsord or Longsword (two-handed), you can use your attack to perform a Mordschlag instead of a standard weapon strike. This attack is treated as an improvised weapon attack, dealing bludgeoning damage instead of slashing or piercing.
Damage: 1d12 bludgeoning (Greatsword) / 1d10 bludgeoning (Longsword two-handed)
If the target is wearing heavy or medium armor, they must make a Strength or Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your Strength modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failure, they take a -1 penalty to AC until the start of their next turn. This effect does not stack.
Critical Hit Effect:
If you land a critical hit, the enemy's armour suffers a permanent -1 AC penalty (to a minimum of 10 AC for heavy armour, or 11 AC for medium armour) until it is repaired by a blacksmith or replaced. This effect stacks with other critical hits.
If you use this attack while raging, you can add your Rage bonus to the AC penalty effect, increasing it to -2 until the start of your next turn instead of -1.
If an enemy's armor is completely degraded to its minimum AC, it is considered broken, imposing disadvantage on Stealth and Dexterity saving throws until repaired or replaced.
Enemies wearing magical armor can resist the Mordschlag’s permanent effect unless the attacker is using a magical weapon or Adamantine weapon.
