ATHENA
THE WAR SAGE, THE LONE MORTAL
THE WAR SAGE, THE LONE MORTAL
In the land of Hesperia, you don't need to possess any abilities to be labelled as a danger. Simply excelling too much in any given field could lead some people to suggest that you are an enhanced individual. Perhaps even the mere threat of your intelligence is enough to persuade them to brand you as such, all to eliminate the competition and save their own egos. Athena was the only non-mythic member of the Olympians, and like many witchbreed she fought alongside, she was isolated by fear and vilified by those who couldn’t comprehend her. Her sharp, logical, and tactical mind was what had she imprisoned on Hexbane Island until the rebellion rescued her, hoping she could aid their resistance. She joined them with a fierce determination to protect others from the ignorance that had nearly consumed her.
Though lacking magical powers, Athena’s intelligence and tactical skills are unmatched. Her weapon of choice, the atlatl and spear, allows her to deliver devastating long-range attacks. Her ability to calculate angles, wind speeds, and trajectories with mathematical precision makes her throws deadly accurate.
Athena’s death in battle marked a profound loss for the rebellion, a tragedy that resonated throughout the ranks. Her wisdom and strength became a rallying cry for those who remained, inspiring countless warriors to carry on her legacy. Though her physical form was gone, her teachings lived on, passed down through whispered stories and sacred texts. The temples dedicated to her grew in number, serving as sanctuaries for those seeking guidance and strength. While the rebellion struggled to find its footing, Athena’s spirit lingered, watching over her followers as they grappled with the challenges of a world without her. Her absence was a painful reminder of the price of war, igniting a fervour in her disciples to honour her memory and strive for a future where her ideals could thrive.
Except from the memorial speech given by Hermes at Athena's funeral:
"There’s plenty of smart people in this world. But how many of them can look at someone like me, someone who used to sneak around in shadows, someone who always had an excuse for why I wasn’t in the fight, and say, ‘Hermes, you can be better than this. You can do better than this? She did that. She made me believe in myself when I didn’t even know I could.
And it wasn’t just me. She did that for all of us. Whether we admit it or not, every single one of us here today is stronger because of Athena. We owe it to her to not just remember her but to honour her. To take everything she taught us and carry it forward, in her name, in her spirit.
So I say to you, Athena – wherever you are now– we’re not letting go. We’re not backing down. You may be gone, but you left us with the strength we need to finish what you started. And by the gods we worship and the gods we might be, we’re going to finish it.
For Athena!!!!!"
