ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Based on the NCHSAA, all athletes must meet certain eligibility requirements in order to participate in Middle School Athletics. They are as follows:
Physicals and Concussion Forms
A player must have an up-to-date physical and concussion form on file in order to participate in practice or games. Forms are valid for 365 days and must be resubmitted each season. You can find the newly updated forms below.

Academic Requirements
All athletes are students first and must meet the following academic requirements in order to participate in any sport at CGMS.
All grade levels are eligible to participate in sports to start the year, with the exception of football, which is available for only 7th and 8th grade students.
After the first progress report, students who are not passing any of their four core classes (ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies) will become ineligible until they bring their grade up.
Students must be passing all four core classes at either report cards or at the designated progress report date in order to try out for a sport. The following are examples:
If a student is on the football team and has a failing grade in a core class at the 1st released progress report, they may remain on the team but are ineligible to play until they bring their grade up.
If a student is on the volleyball team and has a failing grade on their report card, they will be removed from that team for the remainder of that season.
If a student wants to try out for girl’s basketball on November 28, they must have all passing grades on their progress report, which is set to be released that same day.
If a student wishes to try out for baseball or softball, they must have all passing grades for their core classes after the 2nd nine weeks report card has been released.
Attendance/ISS/OSS
A player must have been in attendance for at least 50% of the day in order to practice or play on that specific day. A player who is in ISS at any time during the day of a practice or game is ineligible to participate for that day. Any student who receives OSS for any reason will be suspended from the team for seven days. If a student receives OSS a second time during their respective season, they will be removed from the team.
Team Meetings
Parents and student-athletes are required to attend their respective sports team meeting before the season begins. Coaches will go over important information and will be briefed on team rules and expectations of the coaches for each of their student-athletes.
