Attendance Notes

Send ALL attendance notes (doctor or from home) to:

nbhs.attendance@bcsemail.org

Students can miss up to 7 days per class per semester before students need to make up missed time (see ASL section below)

Students must be present in class for ONE HOUR to receive credit for that class.  This includes tardies and early dismissals.

Notes must be on file for days to be EXCUSED. Both excused and unexcused absences count toward the 7 allowed absences.

For days to be reviewed for a potential waiver, please see section below.

For further questions regarding attendance, please contact your counselor.

TARDIES

Tardy policy includes all 4 class periods (late sign in or tardy to class). Student must be in class for ONE HOUR to receive credit for being present in the class that day.

To have absences considered for waiver by the NBHS Attendance Committee, the waiver form (found in the counseling office) must be completed as instructed and submitted in the office for review. PRINT WAIVER FORM

If the waiver is approved, notice is sent to teachers and the student for documentation.  If the waiver is denied, notice is given to the student as to the reason and if more documentation is needed.

Please note that all excused absences are NOT waived. Documentation for waivers must support criteria for days to be waived.

During high school, you receive four college visitation days where you can visit colleges during the school year. As a junior you can take two college visitation day, and as a senior you can take two days. Try to schedule any other days you need to visit colleges during the summer or on teacher work days during the school year. The college visitation days can be waived by the school, but you must fill out a form to get them waived.

Both Juniors and Seniors get two college visitation days a year waived.

Please complete the following form to apply for a college visit day.

This MUST be completed BEFORE your visit.

ASL is an opportunity for students to make up absences that exceed the 7 allowed and have not been waived*.

ASL hours are after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 - 5:15 p.m.

Any student attending ASL must sign-up and pay in the Counseling Office no later than 1:30 on the afternoon prior to the planned Attendance Study Lab.

2 Hours of ASL = 2 Class Periods.

Students are encouraged to make up missed attendance time during the current semester, to avoid noncredit with a grade of FF.  Accumulated absences can be made up for courses where a student received a final grade of FF at any time prior to graduation, but may result in non-promotion if not made up in the current semester.

It is the student’s responsibility to check their attendance before attending ASL.  ASL hours will ONLY be applied to classes where students have  exceeded 7 absences that have not been waived*. Students may not ‘bank’ or pre-make up attendance time during ASL sessions.

Attendance Study Lab is a privilege…students are expected to behave in an appropriate manner. All NBHS school rules for conduct are in effect in addition to the following after school rules.  Disruption or failure to work will be grounds for dismissal without reimbursement and no credit given.
