PROFESSIONAL
I graduated from the College of Charleston as a certified Teaching Fellow with a B.A. in English and a minor in Secondary Education. Later I earned a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Literacy. I taught ELA for 9 years (in middle and high school) before transitioning into a coaching role. I enjoy presenting professional development and working with diverse teams of educators. In the summers, I enjoy teaching Art and/or Creative Writing at the Junior Scholars Institute for BCSD.
Some of my passions in education include
promoting access & equity for students,
transdisciplinary integration,
social-emotional wellness and learning,
incorporating brain and neuroscience research into our teaching and learning strategies.
In recent years, I have participated in the Coach Cohort of the South Carolina Office of Personalized Learning and learned how PL connects to my passions and values mentioned above!
In 2020, I served on the South Carolina Learning Progression Leadership and Writing Team for middle school Mathematics. I look forward to doing more work with curriculum development and learning progressions/pathways in the future.
PERSONAL
I was born and raised in South Carolina. I have lived in the Charleston area since 2003. I live with my husband, two young daughters (3 and 5 years old), and a mischievous cat. My kids and I enjoy reading books and exploring the outdoors together. My husband and I enjoy sci-fi and fantasy, watching anything from the MCU, and working out.
When I'm not spending time with family or friends, I'm probably making something! I love arts and crafts and usually have several projects going at once. I enjoy teaching art workshops for teens and adults, and participate in local art shows & sales.
PERSONALITY
I have always enjoyed taking personality tests for fun. Now, as an educator and a coach, I find the insights helpful in navigating the interactions of different personalities - in the classroom with students and in the school building with staff. Learner profiles are valuable!
Here are some of my favorite surveys (and my results):
Enneagram (4)
The Four Tendencies (Obliger)
Languages of Appreciation (Words of Affirmation)
Color Code Personality Test (Blue)
Personality Compass (balanced between West and East)
5-minute Personality Test - Animals (Beaver)
