What are Learning Arcs?
Learning Arcs are an approach to professional learning that involve continuous, progressive learning on a specific topic throughout the school year. Instead of single, standalone sessions, participants will build on their knowledge and skills over multiple PL days.
How do I choose my Learning Arc?
In November you will select two Learning Arcs based on your teaching area, ineeds, and professional goals. These courses (Learning Arcs) will be your focus for all three PL days.
Can I change my Learning Arc midway through the year?
No, all teachers are asked to remain in the same Learning Arc for all three sessions.
Do I need to register for each PL day?
You will need to register for Session 1 (November) only. Afterwards, you will be automatically pre-registered for the remaining sessions within the Arc you chose. Kickup will track hours within each Learning Arc towards Professional Development Points (PDPs).
Will there be virtual and in-person sessions?
Please refer to specific KickUp listings for this information.
What is expected of me between sessions?
Between sessions, you will be asked to implement new ideas and strategies in your school. Some sessions may also require you to bring artifacts or complete pre-work that will be used in the next session.
What happens if I miss a session?
If you miss a session, it is important to catch up on the content you missed. You may need to review materials provided by the facilitator or arrange a time to discuss the session with them. You will also need to check with the facilitator if you are still able to continue with the Learning Arc.
Can I attend different topics on different PL days?
The model requires you to continue with the same Learning Arc within your Learning Arc to ensure a deeper, more coherent learning experience.
If I miss a session, will I be able to earn Professional Development Points (PDPs)?
No, 100 % attendance of all three sessions within a Learning Arc is required to earn PDPs.
