Teacher Appreciation Week
Giving Honor Where Honor Is Due...
May 4- May 8 is Teacher Appreciation Week.
The Office of Fine Arts extends well wishes to all of the Rock Stars that work in Baltimore City Public Schools, especially those that teach Fine Arts Disciplines. The way you have risen to the challenge of Distance Learning over night is to be commended. The work that we are able to do TOGETHER on behalf of students is nothing short of amazing. Thank you for all you do!
This week, we highlight the greats among us...
Mr. Charles Funn
Over the years, Mr. Funn has mentored hundreds of students and teachers during his 46-year tenure with Baltimore City Public Schools. His playlist is tremendously long, as he can tout performing with Clark Terry, Gladys Knight, Ray Charles, Freddie Cole, The Temptations, The Dells, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Sammy Davis, Jr and the list really does go on!
While these are extremely notable musicians, Mr. Funn enjoys playing most with his two sons Kris and Kyle and the Dunbar Alumni Jazz Band. Mr. Funn's career as a music teacher in Baltimore City Public Schools has spanned at least 7 iterations, reboots and overhauls of the Dunbar Jazz Band, The Dunbar Alumni Jazz Band, The Dunbar Marching Band, and Youth Works Summer Cohorts!
Many former students of Mr. Funn have graduated college and have returned to give back the same love and attention to students in Baltimore City Public Schools with the same vehemence and fervor that Mr. Funn showed us. With support from his school administrators (Yetunde Reeves, Linda Little, Kenneth McDonald, and Lawrence Williams), Mr. Funn shows no signs of stopping- and we LOVE IT! Cheers to Mr. Funn and the many years that he has taught in City Schools, and to the next 100 more! Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
