The Cromwell Big Fruit area is an area of Cromwell alongside State Highway 8B. Many towns in New Zealand have large statues or totems to signify you have arrived at the town's boundary or centre. The Big Fruit of Cromwell was created and installed in 1990 and the area around it had become overgrown and poorly maintained. in 2016 we redesigned the area around the Big Fruit to include new playgrounds and a large new illuminated sign visible from each direction on the highway. The new mounds and planting stripes have matured well and have been well received by all who pass and now stop off at Cromwell in the adjacent car park.
