Dear parents,
On this page you will find a ton of things you a will need to be successful this year. Look down the list of topics and read the ones that meet your need.
Our new district policy states that primary students do not need to bring school supplies to school any more, but parents do need to provide:
backpack
non breakable water bottle
earbuds
Daily schedual
8:00 Attendance / announcements/ student share what is going on in their life
8:10 Language arts / writing
9:30 Science (M,T,Th) or art (Fri)
10:30 lunch (new change)
11:05 switch classes and repeat schedule
Your student user name and password
When students are in our district they have a user name and password.
Their user name will be found in their planner under their birthday.
It will be:
First 5 letters of your last name +first 3 letters of your first name+ 000 (zeros) OR 001, OR 002 depending on how many siblings are in the district.
Password: 8 digit (if 7 then add a 0)
You have the password. I also have the students password if they did not choose to change it. If they did and you cannot remember it then you must go to Mrs. Williamson to change your password.
How to Log into your Student Google Account
Google Drive is a word processing, spreadsheet, drawing, and presentation tool set that is very similar to Microsoft Office. Students can create, edit and share files and websites for school related projects. These services are entirely online and available 24/7 from any Internet-connected computer. Please note: Although Google Drive can be accessed from any web browser, the best practice would be be to download the Google Chrome web Browser.
Go to Google Chrome and download and install it for free if you do not have it on your computer.
Open your web browser to https://drive.google.com
Sign in with your student account information.
Once you have successfully accessed Google Drive, please view this quick tutorial to familiarize yourself with Google Drive.
How to use google drive and google docs
Students in our district already have their own google account. All they have to do is use their user name and password. Students cannot use their parents account because they will not be able to access it here at school to continue working on their assignments.
The best time to get me is right after school. This is when I can give you the help you need. you may stop by or email me and we can decide on a best time to meet that is good for us both. All parent meetings will be from 2:00-2:30.
Satisfactory and unsatisfactory progress: How can I know how my student is doing in any month?
Grades posted on skyward will be a 1,2,3 or 4 for each test or assignment.
4=exceeds the standard (98%-100%)
3= meets the standard (70%-97%)
2= below the standard (50%-69%)
1= exceedingly below the standard (below 50% )
How can I identify what the assignment/ test is in Skyward?
I will try to write the name of the assignment with the month first so you know which assignments will be looked at for each months progress review. It would look like this:
Sep:T.12 comprehension This means: September (indicating the month of his progress review) T. 12 is test 12 which is the same as lesson 12 in reading comprehension.
If you see a few 2's or 1's it would be best to come in and discuss it with me quickly and begin having your student in the after school test review or writing support classes. All science, art, and writing assignments can be redone for a better grade. Weekly test are each Thursday and a retest is not available since students have regular testing opportunities.
Often students get much of their work completed in class on the smaller daily assignments.
All assignments given that day in the class whether class time was given to complete it or not will be listed as homework if it has a required due date.
Homework needs to be complete before they walk into the classroom on its due date.
Parents please compare google classroom with their planner.
Late work procedure for my class
Only students who turn their work in on time will have the privilege in possibly earning a 4. Students turning work in past their due date will see a impact on their score. Students will receive a 1 for work one week late or more. Please understand that if it is a progress review week and an assignment is due and not turned in it will be counted as a missing assignment.
What happens if you see that your student is missing an assignment and you know they completed it?
Check the no name file to see if they forgot to put their name on it, then place it in the homework tray.
If it is not there, then check the homework tray. They may have turned it in late. Late papers are last to be graded.
Be sure to keep all papers until you see it is posted in skyward.
What to do if your student has allergies
Students often bring treats to celebrate their birthday. If your student has allergies to products, please have your student bring a sealed container or zip lock baggie of treats they can eat so they will fell part of the celebration. Nut containing products are discouraged in the classroom. If a student has a life threatening allergy we will let the parents know. We will also allow your student to sit in an area or their choice in the classroom and have their snack. All desks will be washed after the snack to insure no contamination.

Be a Parent Volunteer
Parents sign up at the beginning of the year for their volunteer time. When you cannot make it, please email the teachers and be sure to come in sometime that month to make up the time you missed. I love having the parents here on Thursdays to help grade the weekly tests. I need help on Thursday mornings and afternoons so both classes are covered.
A volunteer calendar is on the cabinet wall as soon as you enter the class. When you volunteer, be sure to write the date you were here under the correct month by your students name.
Writing assignments often need one on one parent support at home.
Parents, please look over the writing topic packet (or model given in class) to make sure your student’s completed outline, draft, revision, or final copy looks like the model.
All parts of the writing process need to turned in as a hard copy and have the part of the writing process listed in the right corner.
Example: Tanya Smith
5 paragraph essay draft
February 8
Note: Revision will have a handout attached to the revision.
Students late on their work will not have the privilege of receiving a 4.
Students grades will be reduced if it is past the due date. Any papers turned in 1 week late or more may receive an automatic 1.
Your student should be bringing home their final grade and their writing project to show it off to you. If they receive a low score of a 1 or 2, they have 2 days to redo their writing assignment and attach the new one to the old one for a chance of a better score. Students who have a grade of a 3 or 4 may fix their mistakes so it looks nice for the CAM Showcase at the end of the year.
Brain research states that for a student to learn they need SLEEP!and REPETITION!
Remember - Students do not learn at the same pace! Adjust your homework routine to work for the pacing needs of your student.
Have them read all directions thorough and explain back to you their task.
Have them do their work thoughtfully and carefully. Check their work for neatness and accuracy and appearance.
Be available each day to see the assignments that are due and be a "tutor" to them in their areas of need.
Check your students completed work to see if it meets the requirements of the checklist or standards in the assignment. Encourage your student to go back if needed to meet those requirements even if it is difficult for them.
Parents, practice this rule I learned when I was parenting. "Inspect, not expect" This means that as your student's parents, don't just expect them to do their work, but learn to inspect your students work to make sure it is done according to the checklist or instructions.
If they struggle, remind them, "You are not failing, you have just not mastered this yet!
Encourage them to stay with it to the end no matter how difficult it is for them. Encourage them to learn form their mistakes. Each time they practice they will get better!
A grade of a 1 or 2 just means, you did not meet the standard YET! Create the mindset in your student, " I want to be challenged!"
Help them develop the habits of a successful learner - organization, perseverance, excellence, etc.
What character can we partner together to build in your student? The following are characteristics of high achieving students.
They are very respectful and courteous students.
They are hard workers.
They are generally concerned about their academics and grades.
When he /she is working on an important assignment or test, he seeks clarification because he wants to do well.
They are always engaged in classroom discussion.
They are conscientiously tries to set an example for others by modeling the expected behavior in the classroom and during transitions to other places.
In the classroom, he notices things that he can help .
They check in anytime he / she is absent to make up the work.
They spend time outside the classroom to learn.
Remember, you, the parent, matter most in your child's life. What do you want for your student by the time they are 18?
