We primarily use a blend of two high-rated curriculums, Bridges and Zearn. In the classroom, which includes during Remote Learning, we will be using pieces of the Bridges curriculum for recogonizing patterns, interactive math discussions (called number strings), games and other activities. We will also be using Zearn in the classroom for our small group mini lessons, and problem solving as well as for at home math instruction. At home, students engage in a combination of online lessons through and pencil/paper practice with the Zearn curriculum. Student workbooks and online login information will be provided during the 1st week of school. In addition to these two curriculums, I will utilize other resources periodically throughout the year to offer flexibilty and options for choice. I look forward to the opportunity to partner with you! Mrs. A
Math should worked on 5 days a week. Therefore, students should complete at least 3 lessons a week; then I will give them 1 Google Classroom assignment a week (usually a problem solving task) and then they will meet with me in a Live Zoom class one day a week = 5 days of a math a week. However, you are their main teacher at home so I will leave it to you to make the decision on pacing. If your child would like to work ahead, go for it. (If you are using another curriculum to supplement this curriculum, please let me know and we can discuss the appropriate pacing.) There may also be times when we incorporate Lessons from other resources and then skip Zearn Lessons or students will have the option of which curriculum to complete the learning.
These will be activities for students to engage further in math and also reconnect with a learning community. These are a way for me to gauge how students are doing in their core programs and with the focused skills. Examples of weekly learning would be activities during Zoom sessions, showing work on a problem solving activity, Prodigy, etc. (Prodigy is an online game that also gives me feedback on how students are doing in math skills.)
Class Hero - This is a program we have had for awhile but they have made some new advances. I will be opening up all the 5th grade skills and students practice will be differentiated based on their assessment results from i-Ready. (Recommended time is 10-15 minutes, 2x a week.)
