5th Grade Standard
5.NBT.A.4 Use place value understanding to round decimals to any place
This video reviews rounding whole numbers and goes into rounding decimals. It uses a reference to a "hill" when looking at deciding which way to round which is similar to how I teach it (I talk about a roller coaster with 5 being at the top).
Here is a quick introduction to rounding decimals to the nearest tenth.
This video goes through rounding to the tenth, hundredth, and thousandth. It uses a saying and method for remembering that I haven't heard before, but can be catchy and seems useful "Who's knocking at my back door? Five or more, raise the score..." It uses several examples to help you see how it works. I would stop half way through each example and see if you could complete the rest of the examples.
This video shows 5th grade students explaining how to round decimals. Their method is slightly different but the concept is the same. Perhaps you can have your child show the similarities between their method and the ones shown in the previous videos.
