Freya Bramble-Carter ceramicist based in London. She teaches pottery classes part-time from her workshop- which she shares with her father who is a fellow artist – Chris Bramble. Her work is heavily inspired by traditional craft.
Pallas Kalamotusis originally started working as a curator and writer.
Since founding the interiors studio, 'Studio Krokalia', Kalamotusis has delicately balanced the historical and modern in her work, creating a specific aesthetic that she applies to each project.
Kalamotusis and Bramble-Carter partnered on a special collection of one-off pieces for 'The New Craftsmen', creating a vibrant, culturally rich project.
The pieces are thrown, stoneware forms assembled by Bramble-Carter. They are glazed using a tin white glaze, then painted with underglaze and oxides by Kalamotusis.
Kalamotusis is inspired by Ancient Greek history and culture, her family and personal experiences. Also, colour and form from modernist paintings. Artists such as Matisse, Picasso, and Greek painters such as Nikos Ghika, as well as lesser-known painters such as Nikos Nikolaou and Konstantinos Maleas.
Bramble-Carter finds the process of collaboration itself extremely inspirational, she has always had an affinity for vases- their structural, but feminine form. She has Recently been rediscovering her childhood geography case studies of Earth. The connection clay has to the earth and its properties bear significance in her current process.
