Information for parents/carers bringing children to Graduation Celebration events:
We warmly welcome younger members of your family to join us in celebrating Graduation at our beautiful campus. To help make your day enjoyable and safe for our younger guests it is important that the children in your care remain with you at all times. Please be particularly aware that other attendees and staff will be using their vehicles on the access roads and in the car parks on campus, and that in the grounds there are open-water lakes and ponds. We are delighted to report that our resident swans who live on the lake currently have cygnets, but also need to let you know that as good parents, they are very protective of their brood if humans stray too close! There may also be animals in the fenced farm fields surrounding the campus during your time with us, and walkers and dogs on the public footpaths that run through the estate.
We ask that you accompany younger children, and any vulnerable adults in your party too, if they need to use our toilet facilities, which will be clearly marked to indicate whether they are a single sex or open communal facility. It is also useful to know that some of our historic buildings, while stunning, can have bumpy flagstone floors and steep stone staircases.
If in the event a child or vulnerable adult in your party does become absent or detached from your group, please make your way to an Information Point for assistance. Information Points are located at the Reception Desk in Main House (Graduation ceremonies on Monday to Friday), and at the Registration Desk in the Atrium of the Commons Building (Graduation ceremonies on Monday to Saturday). We have a team of DBS-checked and trained staff present on all days to care for any children who are temporarily separated from their family group.
Finally, as a precaution to ensure the safety of our guests, if you will have a child or vulnerable adult in your party, please ensure that you bring some form of photographic ID - your driving license or passport for example - so that if your child or vulnerable adult is temporarily in our care we can ensure that they are returned safely to you.
It’s your big day – remember to enjoy it!
It is also important to note that the University reserves the right to cancel any or all of the graduation celebration events up to 48 hours in advance should circumstances mean it is not safe for the events to go ahead. We would only take this step if Covid cases surge dramatically or a new variant of concern becomes widespread.
