The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a school-based support system designed to identify and help students who may be facing barriers to their learning or well-being. These challenges could be academic, emotional, behavioral, or related to family or social issues. SAP connects students with the support they need to thrive in school and beyond.
Who is SAP for?
SAP is for students who:
Show signs of academic struggle
Experience emotional or behavioral concerns
Are impacted by changes at home or life stressors
Need additional support beyond classroom strategies
How does the SAP process work?
Referral – A teacher, counselor, or parent refers a student for SAP support.
Permission – Parent/guardian signs a SAP permission form so we can move forward.
Team Meeting – A team of school staff meets to review the student’s needs and strengths.
Action Plan – We create a personalized support plan that may include small group sessions, check-ins, behavior strategies, or referrals to outside services.
Follow-Up – The team regularly monitors progress and adjusts the plan as needed.
Parent Involvement
Parent involvement is key to student success in SAP. We partner with families throughout the process and keep them informed of goals, progress, and next steps. Our goal is to support the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally.
Examples of Support we offer:
Social-emotional learning groups
Academic check-ins
Behavior plans and goal tracking
Access to mental health services
Connection to community agencies (e.g., Pinebrook, YESS!)
When does SAP meet?
Our SAP team meets monthly during the school year to discuss student referrals and update support plans. If your child is referred, you will be contacted directly with more information and next steps.
