This month students in Mrs. Hojnacki’s math classes will continue to work through Unit 4. They have been showing great perseverance and determination as Unit 4 is filled with 8 new lessons. This topic focuses on extending the use of properties of operations from writing and evaluating algebraic expressions to analyzing equivalent expressions. By the end of the unit, students will be able to expand expressions, factor expressions, add expressions, and subtract expressions. Can you simplify the following expression?

This month, we are diving into the timeless classic A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Through this play, students are honing critical reading skills like making inferences and analyzing themes, characters, and literary elements.
Students will examine how Dickens uses dialogue and actions to reveal characters’ motivations and emotions. They'll also practice making inferences about how Scrooge’s transformation reflects broader themes of generosity and redemption. Discussions and activities will encourage them to connect these ideas to their own lives and modern society.

We have been incubating chicks in science class! We incubated and hatched 11 baby chicks that we got from Penn State’s poultry barn. It’s been a wonderful experience for the students. They learned about the developing chicks over the course of the 21 days. We tied it to our Metabolism unit by talking about how the developing chicks get everything they need inside of the eggs. Specifically we learned about the oxygen exchange that happens through the shell. A few students were able to adopt the chicks when we were done and take them to their own coops!
