The vitaris lives in snowy plains covered in trees and surrounded by mountains. It is nocturnal so during the day it goes up into its cave in the mountains to sleep and at night it makes its way down to the flat area to hunt or scavenge for food.
For my first design I was only really thinking about what our group had talked about but I did add a few different features then my group members. I Mainly based mine off of a polar bear. The shaggy body, The big nose for a good sense of smell and even white transparent fur for camouflage. Then the other main part of my animal was a wolf. It has the big ears for hearing prey or predators.
My design was based off of a wolf. It has paws for its front legs for digging and hooves for its back legs for running. It has a large tail with a hard scaly underside for whacking and knocking out its prey. It has 2 useless eyes and 1 pair of large ears as well as 1 pair of lime green antennae for sending out sonar waves. It also has large sharp teeth and venom glands in its gums.
My design was based off of a large dog that has big sharp teeth with venom glands in the gums for paralysing its prey. It also has an area on its back that when the Vitaris is threatened it goes all poofy so it can look bigger. My one has a short stubby tail so it dosn't get caught in anything or damaged and it also has 2 large horns to attack predators with and to use during mating season.
This Is Our Final Design Drawn By Stevie.
The Vitaris Report
Classification
The Vitaris is a mammal and a vertebrate .The Vitaris falls in two main animal families, these are the bear family and the Canidae family .The bear family includes the brown bear, black bear, sun bear and also the polar bear these are just a few of the types of bears in this family .Then we come to the Canidae family ,the Canidae family is a mixed family such as wolves ,coyotes ,foxes ,Jackals and wild dogs.
Physical features
The vitaris has a thick coat of transparent fur to keep it warm. It also has large hooves to grip on the ice. The vitaris Has a segmented tail to knock animals on the head very hard, these segments consist of bone and ligaments. They also have sharp teeth with venom glands in its gums for biting and paralysing its prey. The vitaris has poor eyesight so therefore its eyes are very small. To make up for this it has antennae on its head to send out sonar waves .The vitaris has a large spike on its hock, when threatened it can drive its prey onto the spike by using its powerful tail.
Habitat
The vitaris lives in snowy plains covered in trees and surrounded by mountains. It is nocturnal so during the day it goes up into its cave in the mountains to sleep and at night it makes its way down to the flat area to hunt or scavenge for food.
Life Cycle/ Reproduction
The Vitaris can give birth to an average of 4-6 live young, but only around 42% of the young survive .This is because because of harsh environments and in rare cases they become the next meal for predators if their mother is deceased or is asleep .The Vitaris reproduces like most other mammals. Its life span varies on average from 80–100 years old. If it has a steady food source it will grow large, strong and its age can reach up to 200 years old.
General information
Movement-The Vitaris can run up to speeds of around 72 km for short distances when running. The Vitaris walks in a somewhat swaying motion like a polar bear. The Vitaris walks on all fours like most mammals but in mating season it can rear up on its haunches to threaten others of its kind or to impress a mate with its height.
Respiration- The Vitaris breathes using its lungs just like any other mammal although In the case that the Vitaris is forced to live in a very humid area or even in water ,it will start to form external gills almost like an axolotl and its lungs will decrease in size.
Hunting- the Vitaris comes out at night to scavenge for dead animals .it does not matter if the meal is partially decomposed ,it will still consume it, however if the Vitaris is desperate for a meal it will search for live prey this includes the Askala which is a type of freshwater fish and the Reda which is a type of deer.
There are five species of Vitaris, these are just two out of the five. As you can see the one on the right has bird-like feet, The reason for this is so it can grip onto the ice and grab prey. the one on the left lives on snow and rock so it doesn't need as much grip as the one on the right. It is more of a scavenger so it doesn't need to grab its prey.
