All Early Elementary students should checkout a district-provided iPad for use in school and at home. The campus Device Manager will be able to facilitate checking out devices to students. Students will keep this iPad until it is switched out for a Chromebook when the student enters third grade.
Early Childhood teachers have a choice as to which management service they choose to learn and use. Apple Classroom is usually seen as the introductory device management tool as its interface is more simple and provides more screen monitoring capability inside the classroom. Jamf Classroom provides a deeper set of tools to control the iPad as well as push approved apps out to the student devices. Jamf is sometimes used in conjunction with Apple Classroom by those that want the best of both worlds.
Austin ISD Technology is not currently taking any requests for iPad apps. There is a concern regarding the amount of space on the iPads and ensuring that all of the apps are secure for students’ data and privacy. We are reviewing potential changes to app request processes now.
The Technology Design Team's YouTube iPad playlist provides videos that demonstrate different aspects of using or remotely managing the iPad in the classroom.
Is there a concept or demonstration that you would like to request so you could provide it for your students? The TDT makes many of our videos based on the needs from teachers. Submit your request using this form.
