Austin ISD-Issued Chromebooks

All 3rd-12th grade students should checkout a district-provided Chromebook for use in school and at home. The campus Device Manager will be able to facilitate checking out devices to students. Students will keep this Chromebook until it is switched out for technical reasons or until the student graduates from Austin ISD.

Students can enroll into the BLEND Everyone:1 Student Chromebook course, bit.ly/AISDchromebooks, for a collection of basic use tips.

Using The Austin ISD Google for Education Account

All students are given a protected Google account that is used to connect to their own Google Drive and all of the productivity apps. The Chromebook will also require students to login using this same Google account login, which is the same as their student email address. Unlike consumer laptops, this Chromebook can only login one Google user at a time. This means that all activity on the district Chromebooks is filtered through Austin ISD content filters and monitoring systems in order to provide a safe digital work environment.

TDT YouTube Playlist: Chromebooks

The Technology Design Team's YouTube Chromebook playlist provides videos that demonstrate some aspect of using a Chromebook within the classroom.

GoGuardian Teacher: Remote Device Management

GoGuardian Teacher provides staff with the ability to actively support student productivity on the Chromebooks through the use of screenviews of student devices, the ability to chat and send URLs for new tabs, as well a creating Scenes that might create temporary internet restrictions.

The resource and training course for teachers in BLEND, bit.ly/aisdgoguardian, must be completed by teachers before they can request access to GoGuardian Teacher. The course not only contains training and instructions for how to add students, create classes and manage activity, but also addresses the district's stance on appropriate monitoring. GoGuardian Teacher is not meant to be a tool for searching for student infractions, but instead to use the browsing histories and scene restrictions in a way that develops higher-level learning by the students.
