A good teacher and a great book!
A tough history teacher challenged me to think for myself to succeed in his high school course. Other students called him "impossible" but I figured it out and wanted to teach like him. Then, it was a science book that convinced me to study political science - Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Thomas Kuhn.
