Throughout our program, we will become walkers. London is a walking city. We will walk places in Dorking. We will walk frequently and far. The most challenging will be a 3 mile hike that, while rugged and intense, is immensely gratifying. We will be following along the most picturesque section of Hadrian's Wall, with stunning scenery and beautiful backdrops. We will also visit some of the forts situated along the wall, including Vindolanda, where remarkable preservation allows us to learn about perishable artifacts such as leather and wood, and how Romans made things like shoes. Small wooden tablets found at the site give a glimpse of life in Britannia from the perspective of the people who lived there. We can read personal communications between individuals from 1600 or more years ago!
