Dorking is a small medieval town south of London in the Surrey Hills. It will serve as our "field station" as we delve into the intricacies of archaeological methods. We will learn how to survey, excavate, and process artifacts (spelled "artefacts" and referred to as "finds" in the UK) at a real archaeological excavation of a Roman Villa estate. This experience will also allow us to meet English locals, and to contrast the culture of the countryside with that of modern urban London.
