In 2018, Carlisle served as our northern "base camp" as we explored Hadrian's Wall, but it was itself a Roman town, and has some interesting cultural features that we will explore. Carlisle Castle is a Medieval castle that is largely intact, and gave us a chance to explore a different time period.
