Betsy Kirkpatrick, RN, CIC
Since 2015 Betsy has served as Senior R.N. at Austin Public Health Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit. In response to increasing drug resistant organisms in Travis County, she founded the Travis County CRE Task Force in May 2018 with a multi-disciplinary team of nurses, physicians, pharmacists, and microbiologists.
Before joining Austin Public Health, Betsy was employed at St. David’s Medical Center for 33 years. Betsy served as an Infection Preventionist from 1998 to 2015. Prior to becoming an Infection Preventionist, Betsy worked as a floor nurse on St. David’s Med-Surg Unit from 1981 to 1998, and was selected as Employee of the Month in May of 1994.
Betsy is a proud graduate of Austin Community College Associate Degree Nursing Program, 2009-2010. She previously graduated from Austin Community College Vocational Nursing Program 1975-1976.

Students participated in a service-learning project with persons with disabilities at The Arc of the Capital Area during the fall and spring semesters. The students conducted a needs assessment and planned, implemented, and evaluated an oral health education program aimed to improve the oral health of the participants.
