Q: When can I start checking out books from the library?
A: Right now. The library is open Monday-Friday 7:30-3:30. All you need is your Student ID or barcode to check out a book.
Q: How many books can I check out at once?
A: Two
Q: Do I have to pay a fine if I return my book late?
A: There are no late fees at the library - but please return (or renew) your book as soon as you can so other students can check it out.
Q: Do you have Wings of Fire?
A: If you are wondering if we have a certain book you can check our online catalog here: https://sangabrielhs.goalexandria.com/ or come to the library and ask the librarian in person. If we do not have your book we may be able to order it. You can fill out a request form for a book here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeol2sUCwuAfh5NVDo-EPMRSwKcyHPuAjAvd4OVvyq-xawOEQ/viewform
Q: Can I volunteer in the library?
A: There is a library club that you can join; ask the librarian for more details. Volunteers usually join the club and attend at least one volunteer training session. Trained students can volunteer in the morning, during ME Time, or at lunch.
Q: What book should I read?
A: Come in and talk to the librarian if you need help finding a book. The New Book section is also a good place to start. Every month there are two or more featured books you can find here: Books
Q: What happens if I lose a book or it gets damaged?
A: Come in and speak to the librarian. If the book needs to be replaced you may have to get a replacement or pay a fee. Sometimes you will not be allowed to go to a dance or to pick up your diploma until you have cleared your fines.
Q: Do you have comic books/manga/graphic novels?
A: Yes! We are currently working on purchasing more manga titles for the library - if there is one you recommend, please fill out this form. You can also read comics online through Comics Plus and Hoopla with your LAPL library card.
Q: Why do I have to sign in to the library in the morning, at lunch, and during 6th period?
A: You sign in with your Student ID (it records your ID number and the time/date you came to the library) for library records. This allows the librarian to collect data on library use and to keep track of when the library is full, etc. During 6th period the librarian is making sure everyone who signs in has a free 6th.
Q: I forgot my ID card - can I still come to the library/check out a book?
A: You need a barcode to check out a book or to sign in to the library in the morning or at lunch. If you do not have your Student ID with you, you can use the barcode on PowerSchool through your phone. Check with the librarian if you need help. If you lost your ID card and need a replacement, see Ms. Alejos in the bookroom.
Q: When is the library open/closed?
A: Regular library hours are Monday-Friday 7:30am-3:30pm. The library is open for an hour before school and during lunch (sometimes it closes at lunch if it is already full). It is also open during passing periods, etc. The library and bookroom are closed after school including for collaboration and on minimum days. Sometimes the library space is open after school but you cannot check out books, etc. The library is also closed if, for example, the librarian is gone at a meeting a conference or if there is testing in the library. The library is usually closed every other Tuesday during 6th period, for example. A change in library or bookroom times, etc. will be posted to the library door and/or bulletin board outside the library.
Q: Can I come to the library during class time?
A: You must ask your teacher for a green hall pass.
Q: Can I borrow a Chromebook or check out a textbook?
A: You can ask Ms. Alejos the bookroom clerk. The library is not in charge of Chromebooks or textbooks, but luckily the bookroom is located in the library building!
Q: Ms. Naylor, what is your favorite book?
A: There are too many to choose just one! Check out our Student/Staff Recommendation shelf to see what books students and staff at our school recommend. You can even add your own by filling out this form. I also personally recommend two books each month - you can find this month's titles here: Books
