The first of three books in the Legend series.
What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors.
Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles.
Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.
From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect.
Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias's death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue meets This is How You Lose The Time War in this fantastical love story that defies death as two souls reincarnate through the centuries.
They've loved each other in a thousand lifetimes. They've killed each other in every one.
Evelyn remembers all her past lives. She also remembers that in every single one, she’s been murdered before her eighteenth birthday by Arden, a supernatural being whose soul―and survival―is tethered to hers.
The problem is that she’s quite fond of the life she’s in now, and her little sister needs her for bone marrow transplants in order to stay alive. If Evelyn wants to save her sister, she’ll have to:
1. Find the centuries-old devil who hunts her through each life―before they find her first.
2. Figure out why she’s being hunted and finally break their curse.
3. Try not to fall in love.
You can buy the book (it is available on Amazon and at Target, etc.), read it online through Libby if you have a library card (although the wait time is probably pretty long), download it on a Kindle, or there are three copies available to check out in the library while they last.

What is a Book Club?
A book club is a group of people who read the same book and then come together to talk about it. Usually, the title of the book is announced a month before the meeting. At the meeting, they discuss what they’ve read, share their thoughts about the characters, plot, or themes, and sometimes do fun activities related to the book. It’s a relaxed and friendly way to explore new stories, hear different opinions, and connect with others who enjoy reading. The idea is for you to finish reading the book before the meeting, but if you have not finished the book it is still OK to come to the meeting, just be prepared for spoilers.
Why did you choose this book?
The librarian and a group of student library volunteers usually chose the book together. We look at new and popular YA books as well as books that are available in multiple copies and easy to access online via services such as Hoopla.
