Art honors is structured to give art students the opportunity to develop an extensive portfolio. This individualized approach to studio art allows students to determine their own areas of emphasis and to pace themselves to meet Art Honors project deadlines. They choose art materials most suited to their needs, and can explore new media and different applications. Many students align their artwork with the portfolio entrance requirements for art schools and art departments within universities. Projects reflect student originality, style and possible career objectives. Students investigate artists relevant to their interests. Class critiques encourage students to vocalize responses to their own artwork and to the art projects of their peers. Students compose their own artist statement. Students gain gallery experience by organizing an exhibition of their artwork in the spring.
