Google Classroom
You will have several Google Classroom courses: Homeroom (Leader In Me, art, upcoming events, etc.), English language arts, math, science, and social studies.
If you are absent or on independent study, you will find your assignments and materials here as well.
Weekly Packet
You will receive a homework packet every week where you will record the number of minutes you read and write down how you practiced one of the 7 habits for the week.
The packet will also include 2 pages of math and 2 pages of grammar. Homework includes review and some concepts that may be newer to you. However, this is a great way to be exposed to new questions so that by the time you learn in class, it won't be as intimidating!
Turn it in on Friday, and there will be a quiz related to the homework. You will get 2 attempts on the quizzes.
English Language Arts
Writing includes personal and imaginative narratives, informational and opinion writing.
Reading will focus on reading and analyzing a variety of short stories, novels, and informational texts.
Vocabulary will be centered around Wordly Wise. You will get a list of words and definitions to answer questions on the Chromebook in Peardeck. You will get multiple attempts to get it right. You will NOT have a weekly quiz on these words. New assignments will come out every other week. This will help prepare you to complete Wordly Wise in 5th grade.
Engage NY Math
Classwork includes CGI math warm-ups and discussions, word problem workshop, and problem sets. The curriculum will be Engage NY, and Zearn mirrors the lessons.
Weekly homework is a spiral review of concepts, not necessarily what happens in class that day.
Exit Tickets will happen at the end of some lessons on paper.
Tests will take place at the end of each module and will be announced ahead of time. You will also be provided with a study guide. Tests are open notes.
Frequently Asked Questions by students: Do we have to do this project? Do we get graded?
Ms. Chang's response: YES
Art will be based on the amount of time we have in class. Typically it will be Friday after lunch.
There are 2 rotation subjects: Science and Social Studies. Ms. Chang will teach science to Room 29 and 30 while Ms. Toyama teaches social studies.
Rotations are on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
Every teacher may up their Google Classroom a little differently.
Pay attention to how the teacher posts and organizes the assignments and content.
Bring the correct materials to class
Pay attention to what it says on the board before you go to the other classrooms.
Use your time wisely!
Many times, your teachers give you time to start these assignments in class. If you work on it during the school day, you won't have as much to do at home!
Make sure to study the weekly schedule. Due to music, our schedule is not always the same!
